You can knock KW for a lot of things. He does get guys on the cheap (what GM outside of Boston or NY doesn't?) and he has swung and missed one more than one of his acquisitions. But to even hint that guys like Dye, El Duque, and Contreras were failures before they came to the Sox is incredibly stupid. Par for the coures for Elmhurst Steve though.

Beckham and Viciedo pretty much are piles of shit. Beckham can flash the leather, but a first round pick needs to be more productive. Viciedo just has bad baseball instincts, and is terrible fundamentally. He is one of the worst outfielders that I have ever seen.

But, what I don't understand about Cubbie Nation, is why they feel that Theo's plan is guaranteed to work. He can't draft and sign players the way he did in Boston. He also threw a lot of bad money at free agents. Money that the Cubs don't have. Just because you rebuild from the ground floor, it doesn't guarantee anything. What are the chances that all of these young players pan out? Some of them are going to fail. The Pirates and Royals have been rebuilding for 20 years, and now they are finally .500 teams. How long did it take for the Rays to be contenders? To suggest that the Cubs are going to be contenders in 2015, is extremely wishful thinking.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash the Cubs. At least they have a plan that isn't just signing middle of the road veterans. The Cubs also do not just hire former players to handle important jobs, like the Sox do.

I am not trying to really bash Cub fans either but trying to be a bit realistic as you have been. You say wishful thinking but I would call all this Theo 2015 talk arrogance.

NFL Offensive records will go down.

You have a speed running back, a power running back, a speed WR, a possession WR, a speed TE, and a big powerful TE, and one of the best QBs in NFL history.

The closest talent all time would be the Steelers with HOFs Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, and John Stallworth with Rocky Blier and Bennie Cunningham.

Actually using what you described you have a HOF QB who is getting up there in age....A FB that can't block or run routes....a mediocre running back....One white WR who gets hurt alot and I am pretty sure that's the dude who to hide cause everyone is getting raped up in here, One TE with major injury concerns and Aaron Hernandez. Not seeing how this is any better than the team that lost to the Ravens last year.

Gronk has had four arm surgeries, and is slated to have back surgery in June. It's hard to believe that he will be ready for the start of the season. Hernandez is just another guy when Gronk isn't on the field, and Amendola will break into pieces at some point. This is one of the worst offenses that Brady has had.

It's not terrible, because it's not guaranteed money. If anybody can find a place for Tebow, it's Belichick, but it won't be at QB. I just have to laugh at the suggestion that they are going to break NFL records now that Amendola and Tebow are there.

There FG kicker may be useless on extra points now and there is a small chance he can develop behind Brady. The great thing is no one has to worry about him playing QB outside of a few blow out games.

I chuckled at that assertation myself. Plus it's not like everything Belicheck touches is gold. How did OchoCinco work out for the Pats?

You guys are missing the big picture here. He was brought in to spread the word of God and try to calm down Gronk from his crazy party ways.

I agree that the Pats' offense isn't that special on paper, but they were still nearly 13 TDs better than the next place team in total points last year. We'll see how Amendola holds up, but even if they maintain status quo (35ppg) next year, that seems to be just fine.

I think Hernandez is better than average. He's not Gronk but still dangerous. Rather have Gronk and Hernandez, but even just Hernandez is not bad.

Right, but none of your talking points on the Patriots have involved Tebow because he probably isn't going to make a big difference from them one way or the other. Having an amazing coach and QB usually means your offense is pretty good. Hell even just having a gay QB and a dumb fat coach can make your offense good look at Green Bay.

I agree. Yeah, I didn't mention Tebow because others posters have already shot Spada's initial idea down, and quite convincingly so. He won't matter either way. I don't know if Amendola is a speedy guy, but that's what NE has seemed to have missed since they got rid of Moss. The death by a 1000 paper cuts approach doesn't work well when you're down in the fourth quarter by more than one score. It's either that, or they've cut back significantly on spying on opposing teams' defensive practices.

I wouldn't count on gronk much, lotta surgeries lately. Tebow will be a red zone threat. I wouldn't put that Pittsburgh offense in the top 20 all time...they won with defense.

Exactly. Where they obtained on the cheap? Yeah, some of them were. Were they failures? In the case of Dye and El Duque, abosultely not. The jury was still out on Contreras and he proved to be awesome for a stretch as well.

The 2 Cuban guys were probably at least 3 or 4 years older than they said they were. Contreras is the Cuban Satchel Paige.

Dye was coming off two injury plagued years and many thought he was fading out of baseball

Contreras was pretty bad in 04 when they got him.

Hernandez was still good.

Interest in A.J. was limited by the rumors of he and the SF staff not getting along.

The issue Burbank Steve raised is not that they were gambles, but that they were failures.

Gambles I would say yes, to a certain extent. Failures, absolutely not.

I believe your exact quote was "rolled the dice and they all came up aces" which indicates luck since dice games are pure luck.

All free agent signings are gambles to some degree.

Yes, they are.

I think the degree was high on some of those guys.
