IIRC both of them won the award. Isiah may have won Executive of the year too.

Just skimmed the relevant history, and I don't think Thomas won either award. Thomas was better as an executive in Toronto. Your characterization of him may be accurate, but there's no doubt that he presided over one of the worst stretches in modern NYK history. Bad trades, bad signings, bad records, bad cap management, and bad scandals. It was a mess.

NBA teams maybe firing coaches way too quickly.

Isiah had success as a coach. His problem was he couldn't buy the right groceries. He believed just getting talent would make you a winner. He never realized that character and the right mix of players was more important.

Bird was "forced" into coaching but guys like Reggie and Mark Jackson said he was a really good coach. Carlisle was an unknown before Bird.

Who cares if Carlisle was unknown? The point is that he had major responsibilities in running the team, as did Harter (a long-time assistant who was regarded as one of the league's great defensive strategists). Bird didn't do much.

Can we all just agree that Vinny Del Negro was a once-in-a-lifetime coaching talent?

Thanks for the correction!

I don't remember if the Knicks were considered a serious threat to dethrone the Bulls in 1992, do you? I know the Pacers almost eliminated the Bulls in 1998, but I don' think they would have beat the Jazz.

The Knicks weren't a threat going in, in fact they were heavy underdogs. They gained respect from the NBA world based on how toughly they played the Bulls in that series.

I agree that the Jazz would have beaten the Pacers in the Finals.

Vegan, given your affinity for the NBA, I URGE you to watch "Michael Jordan: Air Time." It will answer the above question and give you the urge for a cigarette.

I'll definitely do that, thanks for the suggestion.

I knew the Knicks were serious players, but I just didn't know when that started. I read Sam Smith's Jordan Rules a while back, and IIRC he characterizes the Knicks as a rising team during the 90-91 season. I presume the Knicks were at their best during MJ's absence, mostly because they went to the Finals during one of those years. When MJ came back, I remember the Knicks changed a bit by adding Houston, and then later adding Sprewell. This also coincided with Ewing's gradual decline.

I'm kidding. I'm 29.

I did just watch "Air Time" for shits and giggles, though. Holy shit, I love Michael. I used to sit by the radio and listen to Bulls games. It was worth every minute. Michael is all there was, there is, or ever will be.

Antoine Walker would take a job as a beer vendor if it was offered to him.

Wow. Who saw that coming?

Stevens will regret that in a couple years and be back at a college coaching.

Brilliant move by Stevens, IMO. Butler fans/players can't fault him for taking a pro gig for a top organization. He gets paid more money. And if it doesn't work out, he can now take any college job he wants without feeling bad about deserting Butler.

Yea in 15 minutes of hindsight, I'd say it was a great move by Stevens. He'll get really rich and will be sought after by colleges when he decides to go back.

Bad move by Boston, though.
