Just a discussion in my office.

Were taking guys at their best for the most part. Very few slam dunks though. Sandberg and Frank Thomas are the only ones we thought were obvious.

Some of the discussions

AJ or Carlton Fisk

Sosa, Ordonez, Baines or Dawson

Grace, Lee, or Konerko (Frank is the DH)

Ventrua or Ramirez?

What do you guys think?

I dont think the Ramirez / Ventura choice is even close. Ramirez easily.

Ya know, looking at the numbers you might be right.

I may overrate Ventura, I liked him as a kid.

the 162 game averages favor Ramirez though

I dont think ( based on his college career anyway) that Ventura ever lived up to his billing. He was a solid mlb player and put up good numbers but coming out of college I was expecting a career .300 hitter with multiple gold gloves .

6 Gold Gloves and his defensive stats are impressive. But yeah, he was a pretty high prospect.

Didn't realize he won that many Gold Gloves.

Pretty sure Rogue thought you meant Kerry Wood.

Im not sure if Wilbur HAS to be on that team. He was discussed.

But its not that crazy to suggest there have been 5 better starters in the last 43 years

Konerko over Grace
Ventura was way better with the glove than Ramirez was. Offense Ramirez was probably better
Dawson in RF, Ordonez in LF

SP Dennis Eckersely, Mark Buerhle, Wilbur Wood, Chris Sale ;)

Closer is Lee Smith, Bobby Jenks 2nd

If you don't want to argue about that Wood or Kerry Wood, would you like to argue about Tiger Woods? :P

Probably? No he was waaay better.

The gap between their offense and defense is similar

Surprised no one is taking the guy who hit 60 homeruns three times.

Truth be told I would take Dick Allen over both of them, but he played 1st for the most part with the Sox.

I did think he meant Kerry and not Wilbur. Apologies Hatch. You can do better than Sutcliffe though. Beuhrle, Zambrano, Rick Reuschel just off top of my head.

Ventura would have more gold gloves but he caught the ass end of Ripken when they were giving popularity choices to him while he played 3rd. Also, another 3b guy blocked him but I am drawing a blank.

Sutcliffe was 82-65 for the Cubs with an era in the mid 3's.

Not too shabby

sutcliffe is debatable. his 1984 was dominating and RPB did say PEAK. his numbers were hurt by his constantly being hurt. is that a pun?
