It makes sense after seeing this topic.

I don't think this happened, and if it did, it doesn't belong on the board.

I was fuckin trashed by the time we rolled outta there and I wouldn't be shocked if I fucked up my math but I THOUGHT I put in my share...
That shit happens I guess. Usually I'm the guy overpaying. Sorry if I was the offender... I may have been, I really don't remember. Hate not having seperate tabs.

Anywho... I liked herb. THough I didn't know who he was until we went to El Presidente. I just thought he was a jolly balck dude.

Out of all the shit people on this board say about various radio personalities, this is what doesn't belong on the board?

REALLY?!?!

i'm beyond tired of this new fad of making your personal restaurant experience fodder for national publication. i don't care what the waiter put on the receipt, if they made fun of your kid, or if they didn't tip you.

the "receipt selfie" news stories are nauseating.

it's not that these score guys are trying to be assholes, just tragically hip.

No. They're ass holes. But it should be curbed at work. Save that behavior for your personal time.

I think Finfer is a good example. He dove into the Score culture that Bernstein created and Mitch allows. Where these uncivilized producers are allowed to bitch, cry, scream and attack. I listened to MJH back in the day. Finfer was Mac's prodcuer there. Never knew he was an ass hole. Why? HE WASN'T ALLOWED TO TALK.

That's the way it should be with Score producers. Bernstein was the first person to allow his boys to talk. Wasn't much at first and then all of the sudden Goff became the 3rd host on the afternoon show.

North and Jiggets used to let Jerry Riles and Jesse Rogers talk all of the time.

I never listened to a lot of North and Jiggs. What little I did, I don't recall them being much of the show. I remember North treating both of them like his bitches when they were involved. Wasn't like they were involved in conversations. The North/Riles relationship was like Archie Bunker/Lionel. The older racist white man patronizing and talking down to the young black kid.

But maybe they were more involved then what little I remember. I'll take your word. I doubt it was as much as Goff, though.

Just admit defeat and move alone.

Spmack shredded your point. It happens. I am sure you will find a new theory soon.

Also he believes that he sometimes gets poor service because the waitstaff looks at him and thinks "bad tipper"
As someone who was a waiter at a place that simply added it into the cost of the bill, neither the wait staff nor the customers should want that. All it would do is raise the revenue of restaurants while eventually driving down the take home pay of the wait staff.

For sure

Was just setting Herb's position

Good, I love threads where I can come in and be the lone contrarian. Tipping is one of the stupidest social constructs mankind has ever come up with.

In short - I just don't like unwritten rules. It just causes confusion and misinterpretation and bitterness and resentment.

There was a thread in here a while ago, debating whether or not one must tip for take-out. I had never heard of doing that. But upon reading what a cheapskate bitch I've always been for not doing so, I was shamed into tipping the next few times I got take-out. It felt very awkward. You'd think that handing money to someone would be an obviously kind gesture, but to me I felt like I was pandering, or dumb, and probably both. I came up with a solution - I don't get takeout anymore.

I'm an idiot, you say? Okay, then tell me. What are the rules of tipping? 15%? No way, say some. That was in your grandfather's era. In modern times, 20-25% is expected. Actually, not expected - demanded. If you're a proud 15% guy, I hope your next waitperson isn't a 20-25% kind of person, or you might be getting the secret sauce with your meal in your next visit.

It's OK to leave less if you get poor service, right? According to the "rules of tipping"? But, how do you define poor service? Hopefully you define it exactly the same way your poor, kind-hearted only-having-a-bad-day waitperson does.

So what exactly are the rules for take-out? Is ordering take-out a sneaky way to make your waitperson get your food for you, but still avoid the tip. Tsk tsk tsk, shame on you! Don't order from there again, if you know what's good for you.

The other day I took my own bag out of the trunk of the taxi. Uh-oh, did I offend the driver? Does he think I did that just so I could cheapskate my way out of adding to the tip? And if he did remove my bags for me, how much extra do I owe him? $1 per bag? $5 per bag? Don't guess wrong! You might embitter your driver!

There's a reason we invented money. To make clear the costs of exchanges. Whoever came up with the concept of tipping is a moron.

Again add $4.00 per entree and just start cooking at home cause all you will have is Micky D's to choose from.

And if you say you will pay than you are a liar.

TOO INSURE PROMPTNESS

You dont want to tip, thats your right.

Please also know that next time you go to the same place, dont wonder why your food takes an hour, or your next beer doesnt make it to your table as quick as the first one.

Not sure herb realizes how much wait staff get paid LEGALLY. They have much less of a minimum wage due to TIPS being the major part of the wage.

I think Herb needs a little more education on the subject.

That isn't true. The exact same thing is variably in cost depending on situation, location, and time. Lunch is cheaper than dinner. Dinner in NYC is more expensive than dinner in Omaha. Home prices can be significantly different. Even at places that post prices you can talk your way down with competitor prices or even just saying that it's too expensive.

Tipping is great for the cheapskates. Just put in your 15% and be happy that others will supplement you by putting in more. If restaurants added in a percentage for tipping, it would likely be 20-25%. I believe it was 18% where I worked, but that was at a country club where they knew that customers were good for the money, and the customers were basically the owners too. TGI Fridays isn't going to do the same.

Oh, and don't feel bad about not tipping for take out. It isn't expected though obviously they'll be happy to take it.

Am I the only one who is hearing of the great dinner meeting of Darkside, IMU and Herb for the first time?

I would have thought that would be a major board topic.
