While I have no issue with Doc Emrich, I find nothing great about the guy, he is good, but some Hockey people talk about this guy like he is cant miss TV?

Personally, I think Foley is better. he seems to be faster in his calls and his voice inflections are better than Doc, or at least just as good.

OK, Hockey mafia, tell me what I am missing.

I was a huge Foley fan but started to sour on him toward the end of his partnership with Dale Tallon. Everything was always the refs fault and never the players. It got old real quick. That said, I was ecstatic when he came back to the booth as part of team Rocky/McDonough's genius plan to extend olive branches to people previously shit on. Great move.

However, he and Olcyzk are absolutely terrible as a pairing, and it's never more apparent than when Eddie is on with Doc. With Doc, there's none of that incessant giggling at everything. Foley says, "Tree, terty tree," and those idiots are laughing like their lives depend on it. There are myriad other examples of fake laughter, but my point is, I think it's Foley's fault for 90% of it. Eddie must get a strange stare whenever he doesn't laugh at something Foley says because when he's in the booth with Emrick, the lameness is minimal.

I wish Foley would stick to play-by-play and leave the vaudeville act behind. His excitement is still palatable, but the schtick needs to go.

Foley's solid. You could do a HELL of a lot worse, but I do agree that the tree thing needs to stop. The obligatory fake laugh breaks chips off of my mortal soul.

I actually think Eddie's better when he's more laid back with Foley. With Doc it feels like he's all business.

I agree with the second part, but I like Pat and Ed - they are easily very comfortable with each other. I have always liked Foley, although he was probably at his best when he was simulcast with the radio broadcast - he was forced to be more descriptive for the radio side.

As far as Doc goes, while I know he's well-revered by his locals, a long-time guy, and has an experienced view and knowledge of the game, I just can't stand his broadcasting style - he sounds like an orgasmic old woman half the time (every damn shot attempt is "OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" this and "OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" that).

Everyone associated with hockey sounds Canadian. It's not your fault.

I miss Gary Thorne doing national games a lot. I'm not sure if that's just nostalgia at this point, but I always preferred him to Doc.

Pat and Eddie are far and away the best broadcast team in Chicago. I love them both. I'm a huge fan of Doc too.

Who can forget when Dan Kellys kid did the Hawks PBP?

I like Doc better. Foley was great back in the day when he did the simulcast, but now that he's only doing tv he's gotten lazy. Also, the constant laughing with Eddie gets annoying since I'm not finding what it is so funny. Doc is way too wordy and there's a ton of times in a game where you say to yourself "Wtf does that even mean!?!?!" but he's great for the game. Every game, every shot, every pass feels important when Doc calls a game and he helps build the tension and atmosphere. Doc isn't my favorite national guy but I still consider him the goods.

Doc is brutal, I have to listen to the radio when he's calling a game. If everything is exciting, then nothing is exciting. If I closed my eyes and listened to him, I'd think there was a legit scoring chance almost every shift.

So to avoid this you listen to John Wideman on Hawks radio?

Thursdays at 5:00 buddy.

Hockey is such a non stop fast paced game that it is difficult not to sound excited all the time. Hockey cant be called like Baseball...unless maybe Farmer did Hockey PBP.

He's the PBP of the MLS Chicago Fire these days on FOX-owned My 50. Hard to believe, Dan was the voice of the Blackhawks on Comcast SportsNet Chicago from 2006-2008 with a younger Eddie Olczyk in the booth before Pat Foley was brought back by Chairman Rocky Wirtz.

My only beef is that we don't hear enough of Pat Foley on a national scale. As great as Mike "Doc" Emrick is calling the Stanley Cup Final on NBC Sports, I wish NBC would actually utilize Pat on other series not pertaining to the Hawks.

We do the same hoju. Sound goes off on TV and local radio broadcast goes on. Can't take Doc, too wordy.
