I say they can compete with this Heat team next year.

If they can get another guy that dribble the ball and score I say they have a shot. The Heat don't really scare me.

They are a call from God away from a championship.

Pretty far. Dont have the shooters or ball movement to be able to score when it counts. You think they wouldve hit the 3's that SA or Miami did when they would swing the ball to the wide open guy? Tat is, even if they could find the wide open guy. The basic problem of LeBron on Rose in crunch time hasnt ever been addressed and Rose cant score on LeBron so he has to give the ball up and nobody else can score or break someone down off the dribble.

I think its more than one. A couple guys that you cant leave open and someone else to get them the ball .

Agreed.

Are there any legitimate options for fixing this problem for next year?

I am having a hard time seeing any.

They have secondary ball handlers. I think you add a 2 guard who can average 18-20 a game, and you're right there.

Plus, Derrick is gonna have to learn to score on LeBron

This "LeBron shuts down anyone" is reminding me of the Bonds Intentional Walk bullshit. He's not THAT good. You could have gotten Bonds out then and you CAN score on LeBron now.

Sure maybe you can score on him, just not Derrick.

You know what I mean though right?

I hated the Bonds thing. Just pitch to him. He still makes outs over 60% of the time.

Badrogue is right on.

RPB: who would you say the secondary ball handler is? It will be three years since the 2011 EC Finals when the season starts, but Rose during that series was completely neutralized by LeBron. So I think the talk about Rose not being able to score on LBJ isn't as hyperbolic as it may seem.

As for available scorers/creators, Monta Ellis is available, but the Bulls don't have the space to sign him outright.

I wasnt saying it's hyperbolic. Im saying Rose and everyone else needs to not just cash it in for the night when LeBron guards him

The other ball handlers were Nate and Kirk this year. You can find a secondary guy.

I think a scoring 2 guard would solve a lot of their issues.

I agree about Rose having to find a way to deal with it though. The truly great ones find a way to get it done regardless of who is on them. If Rose is the true competitor he supposed to be, he should be taking that as a challenge and bust his ass to figure it out.

That's true, but I don't think Rose was cashing it in. He just plainly failed to beat LeBron off the dribble. One crucial possession in the 2011 series ended with a subdued Rose passing the ball to Kyle Korver, who was then smothered by a Heat defender while the shot clock expired. To me, it perfectly encapsulated what was wrong about the Bulls, and still is to some degree: the lack of secondary creators.

Nate and Kirk handled the ball just fine, but what is needed is a guy who can create his own shot on a consistent basis when his number his called. Nate and Kirk do not fit the prototype a championship team needs.

The lack of another scorer was two-fold in my eyes. It didn't allow them to run any type of offense. The reason Derrick was so easily guardable by Lebron is because they didn't even run him through screens (other than a high pick and roll action). Lebron can't similarly defend people like Tony Parker because the Spurs have a ton of movement in their offense, which is predicated upon additional scorers. The Bulls just went four corners and waited for Derrick to create. That is a recipe for disaster.

Agree completely. Plus, that second scorer money has already been used on Boozer, unfortunately.

Jimmy Butler went from reserve to starter this year. It's too optimistic for him to jump from starter to fringe all-star next year, right?

I think he'll be a good supporting cast player, maybe a more versatile version of Tony Allen, but I don't see him as a fringe AS as early as next year. Others who've seen him more can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think his dribble drive game is as advanced as you'd require from someone groomed to be the Wade to Rose's LBJ.

I see Jimmy Butler maxing out as Josh Howard. That's not bad.

The Bulls ain't winning shit with this team. Their only hope is that a mid-late career Derrick Rose can be the #3 guy on a championship team, which will never happen. This team is content with being in the playoffs every year and winning ~60 regular season games that mean jack shit when it comes to playoff basketball, aka BIG. BOY. BASKETBALL.

by my estimations, derrick rose has to be the 3rd leading scorer on the team for them to have a real chance.... and that's with him averaging ~17-20ppg. good luck with that!

The distance between the Bulls and the NBA championship trophy is 1377.4 miles.
