I said this a while back.

Whatever respect he may not get is due to the Cult of Michael Jordan and the way the modern fan thinks about the game. Hakeem didn't really win any championships. Michael had 8. He just chose to take two of them off.

hear hear! be careful, JORR, cuz you're toeing some dangerous waters by bringing this up. don't mention those youtube videos that showcase the dichotomy of results that come from jordan facing legit hard-nosed defense (88-89 pistons series) and then facing the kind of defense that came during his reign (90-98)

it's like the behind the scenes video for those jordan/bird/magic photoshoots that went down heading into the 92 olympics. jordan was in the center of the trio, and as magic came up to affectionately put his arm around mj he quickly pulled back and said "can't do that cuz that's a foul"

but hey, in the end i got 6 titles during my adolescence and the NBA got their superman as they expanded globally, so everybody was a winner, right? in the end i don't think that many outside of utah truly care that the mailman never got his ring.

1951 Rochester Royals:

C Arnie Risen Joe McNamee
PF Arnie Johnson Paul Noel
SF Jack Coleman Bill Calhoun
SG Bob Davies Pep Saul
PG Bobby Wanzer Red Holzman

That's Holzman playing, not coaching. Nothing there seems particularly scary.

On a different note. I had a friend of mine today that actually told me that Michael Jordan was not in the same league as Lebron because MJ was not a very good defensive player.

Yeah I told him we were done discussing basketball as I could not continue the conversation with someone that clearly knew nothing about basketball.

I don't think that's very accurate. I think the Hakeem respect/no respect has much more to do with actually knowing basketball than it has to do with Michael Jordan.

It's not accurate. Also, the "cult" of Michael Jordan is absolutely warranted. He was pretty good. You know, six championships, six Finals MVP's, and the highest PER and scoring average ever. He wasn't bad.

Contrarian.

Otherwise, terrible basketball thought.
