I tip my imaginary cap to the Hawks. They are certainly likeable fellows. The goalie guy sounds like a guy you'd want with you when the shit is hitting the fan. Maybe I'll watch a game next year. Maybe.

On another note. I figured out why hockey has become popular with the masses. BIG TVs. Back in the day, all you saw was fuzzy guys scooting around and bopping into eachother. You just kind of had to guess where the puck was. Of course that was only if you were at some friend's house who had cable TV.

In other items, you may now wear your Chicago Stronger t-shirts without fear of jinx.

Wasn't hockey incredibly popular in Chicago during the 1960s?

I think that predates the advent of big-screen TVs.

The Hawks are popular now because they are winning.

Its not Big Screen TV's

Its just TV

Having all the games on, especially home games which sell the product, is HUGE

Winning above all else fuels it obviously

You gotta admit watching on the huge HD TVs makes a big difference. It was always the sport that made the worst transition to TV.

What the Hawks are doing is recreating a fan base of kids, that will want to continue to watch the Hawks on TV or in person. This is why the Hawks lost their popularity. Yes, it was always because they didnt do a great job of winning, but teams can still do an average attendance job if they maintain a fan base.

cubs v sox might be the greatest case study of 2 teams that took drastic turns in popularity due to a TV presence, or lack thereof.

No doubt. Hockey benefits more from HD than any other sport, I think.

Im just saying the Home games thing being BROADCAST in the first place really helps

Sure, televising the home games is big. But no one would care if they weren't winning.

Right

And not just winning, but winning titles.

We've seen a lot of regular season success around here, not so much post season

But are all the people watching on their TVs fans of the sports or fans of a television show?
