Bulls are considering trading Deng for a draft pick. That would be a bad move to make in this draft.

Wouldn't the point be to clear cap space for some unspecified time in the future when LeBron is broken down or dead?

They could just wait until next year. If you can sign LeBron then let Deng walk. No need to dump him for a bad contract and likely a bad draft pick.

Is that all he has left?

Next year would be a really good year to have a high draft pick.

This is the last year of both their deals because LeBron will opt out.

Unless they can then unload those two bad things for something decent.

But I forget that not every GM is Jordan-bad .... btw, is Jordan on his way to getting the 'Elgin Baylor GM' award down the road?

LeBron will be pushing 30 and going into his 14th season along with enough playoff games to add at least another full season onto his odometer when he is available on the open market. Buyer beware.

MJ is good at unloading bad contracts (he did a great job in Washington) but he can't build a winner if his life depended on it.

GD LeBron takes great care of himself. He will be fine.

lolz at the comments. lebron isnt leaving miami, and he has at least 5 more years of being completely dominant. even after he slows down, he can just turn into a shaq and extend his career another 4 years or so. he will be 38 and still be a force you cant stop in certain ways. i would trade rose, and move the team to china.

I strongly doubt Lebron would ever even consider playing in Chicago.

I think, and hope, that Garpax is smart enough not to take back any contracts that aren't expiring if they deal Deng. I'd love for them to get a top 5 pick for him if they could. That'd be a perfect trade.

This.

Bulls have got to work some magic via trade. Highly doubt any top level free agent is going to sign here given the track record. Are the Love rumors still circulating? Any credence to those?

I actually think it's substantially more interesting than in-season basketball talk when the Bulls are not contenders. The off-season is where championship squads are built.

Why the everloving fuck would anyone really think that they'd trade a thrid overall pick for Deng?

i don't think Yahoo picked up on this story, so I'm inclined to doubt it. If it is in fact legit, the Wizards might consider it to give Wall a scorer on the wing, as well as a guy who can play pretty good D on the opponent's best SG/SF. Deng is also a good locker room guy with plenty of positive "intangibles," like good work ethic and someone who can instill positive attitude among the team. At 28 he's still relatively young, so that also works for him. But the fact that he's going to be a free agent doesn't make any sense for the Wizards unless they're convinced he'll resign with them since doing so will be his most lucrative option. This draft class is also perceived as weak, so maybe the Wizards value an older guy like Deng over any prospect they may be able to grab at the third spot.

It's thought to be a weak draft?

Of course any opinion on the merits of the draft, in terms of what each player projects to be, is subjective, but many writers have classified this draft as weak. Were you of the opposite opinion?

Here is a nuanced view that tests the 2013 class is weak theory: http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2013/4/25/4 ... hi-leonard

I'm not informed at all about the draft, so I'll be curious to hear what posters who know these players have to say as we get closer to Thursday.

KC Johnson reports Deng to WASH for 3rd pick and Okafor is dead. And LBJ will never come to Chicago.

That's a shame. I'm a big Deng fan, but you do that and you do it fast. If you'll pardon the expression.

You couldn't be a Deng fan. Beyond the fact the players you would be getting back would be worse than Deng you would be increasing your luxury tax hit by taking on a top 3 pick and a awful contract. They don't exactly make league minimum. This move would also immediately remove the Bulls from all championship conversations.

I'm pretty sure they could put together a Deng package for Kevin Martin.

The next time Kevin Martin plays defense will be a first. Deng is a better basketball player.

Time for Deng to go, if not this upcoming year then the next after.

He's been good, plays great D, can shoot but he isn't ball-handler who can score. The Bulls need to get one of those and some other pieces if they want a ring. If they do this "scrap heap" shit and pick up rust old junk to put around Rose then they are proving they would rather be "good" than great and a champion.

Peace out by.

oh no.... and he'll still have his fucked up wrist, won't he?

deng is an apropos mascot for this iteration of the super/try-hard-bulls. they'll win their ~50-60 games, make some noise for a playoff series or 2, and then they'll bow out when the BIG. BOY. BASKETBALLERS. do their thing come hardware time. since the bulls are content with having ~17k/game there and having "tough" playoff losses, extending him means that we'll have the status quo of NBA hell for as long as he's around. and we'll have his bum wrist too.
