@PWSullivan Jumbotron and signage approval means the Cubs have no excuse not to spend some money this offseason.

If they sign anyone, I would imagine it would be Ellsbury. Maybe try to get Lincecum on the cheap and use him as a closer for a year.

Giving either of those guys money scares the hell out of me. You don't sign a speed guy in his thirties. You just don't sign Lincecum.

Ellsbury is 29 and his game is more than just speed. He is an incredible hitter and lead off guy. You sign Lincecum for cheap. He would be a very effective reliever IMO. He has a ton of miles on his arm, but he can still pitch.

Ellsbury will be 30 by the start of 14'. He's going to command a four-year deal at a minimum. Lincecum as a reliever is interesting, but it won't happen. He's going to be one of the best free agent pitchers. Someone will give him bad money as a starter.
