Matt Holiday just pulled his due to the herculean effort of running out a routine grounder. Baseball players are some of the biggest most fragile puss wads on the planet.

Pulled muscles are often from taking performance enhancing substances that affect the water composition of the muscle. During the creatine craze of the late 90's guys were pulling hammies left and right....literally.

Saw your query about Holliday in the Cubs thread. I agree he's gotta be a juicer. Hasn't his power all but disappeared last couple years? Totally looks like someone who stopped for fear of getting caught.

Or, if he quit, like this:

I always laugh about the 'Stretching' these guys do.

They spend 2 hours stretching, running, taking BP...and then they go cash out in the Clubhouse for at least an hour before the game? How the fuck does that get you ready? Hockey, Hoops, Football...all get ready right before the game and they are ready to go. Baseball guys go back on a couch and play poker, eat and sleep.ALL READY!

You watch different baseball games than I do, all of the starters are out in the outfield for the Brewers right before games stretching, sprinting and using arm bands or whatever to get ready for a game.

I dont doubt they come out for some light throwing and getting ready, but they finish BP 1 hr before games at Miller Park as well and the players go take a break from "getting ready". Maybe they come out and run some sprints and throw a little, as they do between innings, but whats the point of 2 hours of stretching and running, then resting for an hour?

The number of injuries in baseball is pretty high for a non contact sport.

I don't think the BP is so much about stretching and getting them ready to play, more to work on flaws or other things that may pop up. I think there is more to it than you are saying, that is all.
