I'm not claiming that it is a perfect system, hell I don't even really understand it. Ask Selig.

But there's a lot of history that has caused the Cardinals' market to be much greater than just the greater St. Louis area. For many, many years they were the Southernmost and Westernmost franchise. Baseball, being a sport that is handed down from generation to generation, one can still find plenty of Cardinals fans in places like Oklahoma, Mississippi, Texas, and Georgia.

This is certainly true, also KMOX radio had one of the strongest AM signals in the country for a long time. I recall growing up listening to games in the '80s on the AM dial with my Grandfather, guys would be calling in from places as far as Seattle saying they listened to every game on the radio.

The team has a .355/.426/.494 slash line, a wOBA of .391, and a 154 wRC+ , fueled by a .373 BABIP as a team with runners in scoring position.

Sustainable? hell no. What does it mean? Is it approach? A preponderance of smart, "professional" hitters?
I'm not sure, but it's been ridiculously fun to watch these guys this year. I don't know if we will see something like this again for a loooong time...

The Cardinals are men of God. They have Jesus on the bench with them and on the mound. I'm surprised Bernstein hasn't done a bit yet on their cross behind the mound.

Well, that certainly isn't the most desirable way to head into the Pittsburgh 5-game set.

Regardless of today's outcome, I have had enough of the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates.

They did. Saw that on Twitter last night. Give me a scouting report, KS.

I'm cautiously optimistic on Wong, i don't know if stud might be a bit far. If he has half the career of a Placido Polanco I would be happy

If he has a big game, ESPN will surely use the headline: Right Place, Wong Time

Wong is a prototypical 2 hitter who should hit for a high average. He doesn't have a ton of pop but should hit 10-15 a year with a bunch of doubles. He has above average speed and is a very smart baserunner who could steal 15-20 bases a year. Wong is a very good defensive second baseman. He's a very good all around player who will fit in nicely for the Cardinals.

I can't figure what Mozeliak is thinking, possibly they think they can fix him. Dave Duncan's bottle of pixie dust might be around somewhere.

I would say my pro-Cardinals statements, as an organization, have been here to read. What the shit are they doing with Martinez and Wacha?!? You don't treat your future two and three starters like they have this year.

He's been in all of 3 games, and hasn't had a Brewer-like meltdown as of yet. I don't trust him in a game other than a 12-2 blowout, so as far as a pile of shit being lit on fire, which is a perfectly good metaphor for his career; he hasn't stunk.

I think Aoki is a FA at the end of the year.

I have a soft spot for light-hitting, ugly Japanese outfielders. Hello, Taguchi!

No, the team has a option on him for next year.

Seven minutes left to Super Clash. Over seven games for the NL Central.

20-21, unsure about the rainout or makeup game situation for any of the teams

It's looking fairly likely that STL, PIT and CIN are going to get in. The 2nd and 3rd place teams would have the decided disadvantage of having to burn their top starter in the "play-in" game.

Brock Peterson is in fact not an extra from Boogie Nights, nothing but 40-man AAAA filler. I can't really say there is any reason he was starting in this game other than over-managing and trying to protect Adams from the LH Locke. Adams does have a platoon split, but if you're only going to give him 41 ABs all year to date against lefties, how is he ever going to hit lefties?
