I disagree. I think he'll be lucky if he gets as many innings as Dempster has. But I don't think he'll be under .500 for his career.

Your affinity for W-L not withstanding, the smart money is against Sale having 8 seasons with at least 10 wins

The smart money is against Harvey or anyone else doing that too.

JORR, what is your point?

That fans put unrealistic expectations on prospects and that sometimes they underrate solid MLBers in faovr of prospects?

Ok. Thats true across all sports and teams

Its not unique to Cub fans, that's a silly notion.

And there is at least one Sox fan on this board who has repeatedly compared Sale to Johnson. So dont pretend that doesnt exist.

He was comparing Sale to Johnson stylistically, not in expected results. You know that. Don't be disingenuous.

That is not the only time he mentioned the comparison. Im being truthful.

Viciedo is really, really likely to be better than Jorge Soler and no Sox fan I know even mentions him. Move him. Keep him. Whatever. You'd like better but he's okay until that comes along.

Im not sure about Viciedo v. Soler, but fans are fickle by nature. I pay little attention to it, unlesss its someone who really doesnt deserve it (Like Marmol)

But the Sox are in deep trouble while TheoandJed have the Cubs "set". It's ridiculous. And if it were flipped around and your team was almost always better but the media played it as if it were actually the other way around, I'm sure you'd be more annoyed than I am

Outside of the ridiculous Dan Bernstein, does anyone think Theo and Jed have the Cubs "set"?

I dont even thnk Theo and Jed think that

Dont confuse people supporting a long term plan with people guarenteeing results

Let's get you down on Almora. Will you be disappointed if he's DeJesus?

Yes, Ill be disappointed if he goes 8 straight years without playing on a winning team.

If Almora has DeJesus WAR, he'll be a decent player.

I hope he's better than that. If he's not, he's not.

Correct, but there are many Sox fans and Mets fans (and fans of every team) who would scoff at that.

I know. But Johan Santana has barely done it.

.247 and rising. Seems to have come of the carpet swinging. Credit to him for not giving up because he looked absolutely lost for about 6 weeks . If he gets to .280, trade him in the offseason. :)

Jean Segura with the paltry .735 OPS in July.

Let me know when Jean Segura has 628 hits by the time he is 23 years and 4 months old.

I would have to know how old he is first, I will stand by my statement that I would take Segura over Castro for the career. One players the game very hard and the other has a long way to go to learn that.

How do you not know how old your arguably best player is?

If I had to guess Castro's career it would be something like .275, 150 homers, 900 RBI. Good numbers for a middle infielder if he can field enough to stay there. He's certainly capable of a big year. If he has his best year and hits .325 with 19 homers and 90 RBI in a year where the Cubs win a World Series, he'll never be forgotten. That's a really big "if" though.

If he somehow developed into Alexei Ramirez with a bit more offensive production that'd be great.

I think he'll hit better than Ramirez. I think Ramirez hit a lot of juiced ball homeruns and now his power is where it should be. We got used to middle infielders hitting 30+ homers. That has never been normal historically. For about ten years there every team had Ernie Banks at short. But I'm not a big fan of Alexei so I'm not sure I see him objectively.

I thought Starlin could be a poor man's Renteria. I'm not sure about that now, Edgar was a great clutch hitter and you could even say in his prime was a run producer.

This board sure loves its comps 8)

Alexei's defensive stats are outstanding. I dunno if they are valid as I don't watch day-in day-out.

By the time Castro is 46 like Ramirez, he could be a better defender.
