Zimmerman is Hispanic, not a tall and handsome white man.

He's Hispanic and the New Balck Panthers want to get Whitey

TMZ headline "Crash Victims Were White!"

Outstanding piece of journalism.

It's sad that a portion of the population wants to turn George Zimmerman into a hero.

Not his skin color.

His personality type (wanna be cop/vigilante) combined with having a gun

The fact that he stopped to help makes this shoutout worthy. Here is a guy who had been trying to hide from the public, after a number of people have advocated violence towards him, yet he stops to render help. Then, he approaches a burning vehicle to help people to get out, rather than staying clear of the vehicle, which could have exploded and killed him. Yet rather than getting universal approval for his actions, he gets a mixed bag, with people mostly minimizing any credit he is due. Kudos to George Zimmerman for being a good Samaritan and helping rather than driving right by the scene.

You can't erase how terrible of a person you are by doing a nice thing.

He's not a terrible person. He's a guy who defended his own life and a guy who stops to render aid to others in need of it. This thread is about an act that has NOTHING to do with the incident with the teenager that attacked him anyway. Is it impossible to separate the two and give him credit for a selfless act to help others?

No, you are judged based on your whole body of work. If you want credit for doing good things, you should avoid doing bad things.

The shoutout is not for George Zimmerman for "his body of work" . It's for stopping and helping a family that was in a serious car accident and helping them out of their burning vehicle.

Why does doing something good matter when you do so much bad? The worst person in the world is nice sometimes. We have to view people as they present themselves. If you want to be viewed as someone deserving of praise don't do things unworthy of it.

Are you a +1 in lives saved?

If not, George Zimmerman is better than you.

I believe God says he will take in to account your whole body of work when applying for a spot in heaven. They wrote it like that in the bible so people could redeem themselves.

Doing good always matters. How has GZ done "so much bad" anyway? He tried to protect his neighborhood from a teen that fit the description of someone seen breaking into homes in that neighborhood. He follows the kid, who then attacks him. He defends himself from the kid, after suffering a broken nose and having his head bashed against the cement. So where is all this bad? Seems to me that this is a guy who tries to help others, whether it be by stopping homes from a burglary or helping a family out of a burning vehicle. Perhaps you judge him too harshly.

I'm not going to re-argue the case. The point is that when you are a bad person, we don't have to look past it because you aren't a bad person at a specific moment.

The thread wasn't about him being a good person on the whole. It was about him doing something good when he came upon a scene where a serious accident had occurred and a family was in a burning car. Rather than drive on and continue to hide from public, he ran to the burning vehicle (which could have exploded for all he knew) and helped the family out of the car. You keep wanting to judge him on things that have nothing to do with the subject of this thread. Try to remain focused on the subject.

The subject is whether someone deserves credit. I say if you are a terrible person you don't. The actions that you take previously matter. If you want to be an asshole then don't expect to be treated well when you decide to not be an asshole for a day.

I am no fan of George Zimmerman but I don't think it is fair to hold the worst thing he's done against him for the rest of his life. Some of our heroes have also committed acts that may be seen as equal or worse.

"Penalty play" is funny, but you're getting to be like Frank and the Wild Hare here
