I'm not big on starting threads. However, I think I have a weak spot for a guy like Jimmy Pasta. He's a passionate Cubs fan. While I disagree with his current thoughts on the Cubs, I want to have a discussion. This thread will not have insults. It will not refer to age, size, or sexual orientation in a negative way. We're going to have a good ol' discussion about baseball. Sort of the opposite of anything on ESPN.

James P., present your best argument about your dislike for the current state of the Chicago Cubs. Let's do this right.

Right now I can't think straight because I wasn't invited in to the "Members Only" section.

As far as the Cubs,I give up. I will try to hold in my anger and disgust until April,2014. You guys are right,I sound like the old guy from The Simpsons yelling at the clouds. I have a feeling by 2014,there might be a few more "old men" joining me though.

What would your thoughts be if the Cubs went about free agency in a similar fashion this year, but with the hope of being a possible wild card team? Acquire guys you could flip if you suck again, but might retain.

To be honest,I don't think making the playoffs is on Theo's radar. He wants his precious high draft pick which as most people know is never a sure thing in baseball. In the offseason,I wouldn't mind one major signing of a decent hitter plus a few more bats signed to 1 year deals. I'm not asking for Lou Gehrig, but right now that lineup looks like a bad aaa team.

I think I stole this thought from RPB, but a strong early performance could lead to management going for it next year. I'm not saying that's going to happen, but I don't think 2014 will be a given "be bad" strategy. Partially because those pieces they have moved at the deadline the last few years could actually be a part of a 2015 playoff contender.

Again, there's a good chance they suck next year and the same thing happens. But I have zero interest in the Cano, Ellsbury, etc. contracts. Too much money for what won't be much production.

I think Theo's next move is to cancel the Cubs convention. There are a lot of angry meatballers. It could turn ugly.

I think most of the Cubs Convention crowd is on board with everything going on. If they are horrible in 2014, that could start to change.

The Cubs Convention crowd will be fine provided the coat racks are located in the same place every year.

You really think those little old ladies wearing 55 Cub buttons on themselves agree with you?

Once again,I do want a rebuild but a few ML hitters in the lineup would be nice, too.
