let me explain it:

Barney was a SS in the minors
Lake played a lot of infield
and Castro is a moron. He goes to LF to limit damage.

Here is the problem. None of those moves make the Cubs better. Barney does not have the range or the arm to really handle SS everyday. It would basically be Theriot part 2.

Lake would be a complete butcher at 2nd and would make Castro look like Ozzie Smith.

Castro would be ok in LF, but he would not be an upgrade over Lake. So you would be gaining nothing.

The only move to make right now would be Castro to either 2b or 3b.

I think they have to give serious consideration to trading Castro this offseason. If they can get a team to bite with a more than reasonable offer, trade his ass.

Part of the decision making process here also has to factor in Baez' ability to play SS at the big league level. If they believe that is probable, then bye bye Starlin.

They have 3 guys in Olt, Villanueva and Bryant who are options down the road at 3B and Alcantara has a chance to be a player at 2B, so switch Barney to SS until Baez is ready or go with a vet like Murphy.

Even though it's been a shit year for Castro, they should be able to find a team(s) willing to take a shot at him and give up value in return.

If they don't get that offer, then bring him back to see if this year was a fluke. He did show power last year so maybe it's just been a shit year but you gotta see what the trade market may bear.

I also partly blame the great Dale Svuem here. He is a former SS and batting coach so how in the hell can Castro regress with Svuem as manager? IMO Sandberg would have been a much better manager especially in player development, i.e. Castro.

cpguy,

Maybe you are right about Sveum. I'm just a little gun shy about trading Castro and find out he is batting 300 again next year. I would hold on to him and see how he looks in April & May.

Just drill Yadi everytime he is up. I am tired of seeing his broke ass hit a double every Ab.

I think part of the reason they hired Svuem is he is willing to eat shit while they suck, so some of the posts regarding Sandberg not willing to be a "good soldier" may be valid, but I still think he'd have been a far better choice then Svuem.

As to Castro, it is that exact belief that he can again be a .300 hitter (plus his age) that make now the time to see what the market is. No way do I give him away, but if they feel Baez can play D at SS and they get a damn good offer on Castro, you gotta take it.

1 more bad year and the bottom falls out on his trade value and you'd have to sell low. Now you can still sell pretty high, so it'll be interesting to see what plays out this offseason because clearly Baez is pushing the envelope.

Had some great seats yesterday about 10 rows behind the plate. Either some guys knows an awful lot about Cuzzi's personal life or was making things up, but the profanities being yelled about his family was impressive.

Horrendous call. Shocking the Cubs won one game. The two teams are playing a different sport.

He blew the call on Dejesus as well. Gotta defer to yadi and the cards on anything close. The check swing was as bad as it gets.
