The Chicago Bears have signed veteran QB Trent Edwards to a one-year contract. He has started 33 games for the Bills, Jaguars, Raiders, and Eagles and appeared in a total of 38 games. He has a career passer rating of 75.5 and thrown 26 career touchdown passes and 30 interceptions.

He is the second quarterback the Bears have signed this week after adding Jordan Palmer on Friday. Edwards was drafted by Buffalo in the third round of the 2007 Draft. To make room, the Bears have waived WR Jerrrell Jackson.

Good signing as a potential backup.

They signed him too from what I've read.

Edwards looked awful in his last stint with the Raiders. I figured he retired.

Well....he's the last out of the 3 who didn't get signed so I'd say there's a good chance he'll be on the Bears by the end of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mc Cown doesn't make the team

That's a good point. I wonder if Blanchard was going to be the backup all along. Because if not, I bet the Bears would have signed these guys when they worked them out pre-season to get them more time in the system.

For a while there, Edwards looked like a solid QB, then Adrian Wilson clobbered him on a safety blitz. He was never the same after that.

Rumors are that Kirk Cousins could possibly be had for a 1st rounder next year although it's doubtful they'd trade him until after the season.

I think if you can get that done you pull the trigger on that right now if you're the Bears.

On Friday, Cutler is playing the first half (maybe into 3rd), then McCown, then Palmer. Next week, no Cutler/McCown... only Palmer/Edwards.

That's not really a rumor, Gruden just said he would give up a first for him.

Didn't see that part. I read it at the equivalent of the Washington Score site.

I would think they would have to consider it given their lack of high draft picks.

Trestman just said Edwards was signed so they can avoid the situation like last week (Josh coming back in).

If you want to go by actual performance in real games,McCown wasn't terrible. The only problem being that was 2 seasons ago. I still would keep him and let the other two fight it out.

Let's not live in fantasy land here....if Cutler goes down, the season becomes the march for the #1 overall draft pick....

Heard talk on Mariotti or somewhere that one of the reasons RGIII might be rushing his comeback is to avoid Cousins getting the start opening day. If RG3's even a little concerned
about job security with Cousins as his backup, there's no way Jay lets the Bears bring in Cousins as his back up. Cutlter only allows 4th rate QB's to back him up.

Maybe if it is a late pick. There are some excellent QB options at the top of the draft. I only bring this up in case Emery decides to trade up as we both know the Bears will be picking in the 30s next year, my friend.

I said AJ Mc Carron the day after the 2013 draft.

I don't think there is any QB in the draft that I like more than Cousins that the Bears could realistically get unless they absolutely suck this year.

Plus, now that they successfully filled the hole at Guard, the Bears no longer have any weaknesses and can draft from a position of want rather than need. But, I am 98% certain the Bears will take a CB in the first round next year.

I say CB Loucheiz Purifoy.

Maybe they can steal David Fales in the 2nd round if he has a bad year this year which is likely since they are playing a tougher schedule. Also, not the strongest arm so he won't wow people at the combine so he'll likely drop to the 2-4th rounds. That said, I'd rather have Cousins. He could be your QB for a decade.

RGIII and Cousins both questionable health-wise, the Redskins starting QB for their opener if Cousins/Griffin can't go:
