I felt like the Mars Volta always mistook excess for excellence.

EDIT: also, De-Loused in the Comatorium is a crime against mastering right up there with that Flaming Lips album from around the same time. Good God, it's all just so fucking loud.

Specifically, I think they are painful to listen to.
I also can't stand Tool, and pretty much anything Mike Patton
has had any involvement in, except Angel Dust and The Real Thing.
