Well NBC has themselves a shit sandwich of a national game today...Sunderland/Crystal Palace

My team is on tomorrow, so we are watching Newcastle (my lady's favorite) and Fulham

I absolutely love NBC's coverage so far.

I just tried to turn on the Everton match, and I had a dog toy thrown at my head.

Jozy not even on the subs bench for Sunderland vs Palace. Hope NBC wasn't advertising him much.

Sunderland has forgotten how to play soccer.

Heck of a game. Chelsea and ManU can spend billions but it doesn't make their games any more entertaining.

And the Arsenal win this morning was a pleasant surprise.

I just hope it's nothing too serious with Wilshire.

oh damn, you're an arsenal fan? i reckon that was you in the road colors of old @ darkofest '13 then.

so far, ozil's that he can provide what's been advertised. in game #1 he opened his account with that proper assist to a streaking giroud; then against marseille he once again established the fact that he's always looking for a clever ball to his running mates. the one shot he did take was pretty meh, but then again if he was more of a finisher he'd start climbing up higher into the echelon now called "bale money"

naturally, arsene still has to show the world that he's smarter than them by trotting out a threadbare squad that picked up its usual international duty injuries in the form of cazorla and rosicky. those of us who immediately started pontificating about the potential of an ozil/cazorla anchored attack will have to wait until after the next international break coming up october 11-15. i'm hoping that both santi and rosicky can either avoid playing or somehow escape that break in proper fitness to be ready for the club come october 16th. even sanogo got hurt playing for the french U21s FFS!

as the season started i've been calling for arsenal to go out and acquire someone who's specialty is actually striking the ball @ the net, you know, the vaunted finisher who specializes in kicking the ball in the net. giroud's proper with the tap-ins at the end of an extended play, but could you picture him ~10-15 feet out getting the ball making one dribble and setting up a thunderous shot @ net? that's what arsenal truly needs.... someone to step up and stop trying to be too cutesy in the box via kicking the damn ball in the net.... football n00b or otherwise, that's what arsenal needs more than anything else....

...and go figure that aaron ramsey of all people is the guy who has stepped up and provided that for arsenal. he's been unleashing some proper belters lately, leading to his run of ~5-6 goals in ~6-7 games or whatever. arteta's been training lately so if he comes back soon he should be able to come in and give ramsey a break (assuming that jack's staying wide while cazorla/rosicky/podolski are out) and provide some added possession/defense while doing that.

of course just about everyone is due back in time for january, which means the british media is going to re-light the torch and compel arsenal to spend more of the vaunted 70mil warchest on some reinforcements. with that timeless mentality of "diaby coming back is like a new signing" prevalent, you just have this feeling that arsene's going to feel like he's balling with depth when ox/podolski/cazorla/rosicky/sanogo/zelalem/etc come back whereas the truth of the matter is that all of these injuries have shown the world, let alone us in gunnerville, that if giroud goes down we're in a whole world of trouble. this lack of depth makes you wonder if arsene/management REALLY thinks they've got a shot to contend for the league or at least some proper silverware (an FA cup would be a nice nice start. especially after that reading debacle last year, as i don't think that went down in the milk cup)

cuz yeah, the thought is that if arsene thinks this team isn't ready to contend for the PL/CL yet, maybe he sees this threadbare squad as providing a chance for the zelalems, gnabrys, akpoms, frimpong, and of course sanogos of the world to get some experience being a part of the first team which will help in the longrun, this way if they go all in like the 2011 white sox and sign some veterans to take up the sub spots currently populated by the youngsters at least these guys have SOME experience with the first team.

otherwise, goddamn, it's almost downright retarded, reckness, or downright egotistical to assume that you can contend for domestic/european glory with a squad that's a couple'a knocks away from relying on players who think that pokemon is something that those old fogies grew up being enamored with.... and that's truly reprehensible when you go out and get a mesut ozil to be a world class #10 that elevates you to leonardo dicaprio titanic quote status. the league seems to be wide open right now, not to mention that the spurs and the scousers are both going to be hovering around just salivating at that #4 position.... someone needs to tell liverpool that they're liverpool and they have to drop 10 points in order to get back into their comfort zone and develop some players!

even tho coutinho's out til mid-late october, shit, suarez is coming back at a time when sturridge is going off and the team has managed to get some swag and confidence despite having some nailbiting wins against mid-lower table teams. i don't think these assholes are gonna go away, which means that brendan rodgers should have someone take a picture of him standing in front of a giant blowed up picture of him standing in front of his portrait in the tunnel leading out to the anfield pitch. do the colbert!

c'est la vie. my name is sinicalypse and this was my EPL psychobabble for the month!

Yep

Ozil was a great signing. Watching the way this team is run drives me nuts most of the time.

Arsenal is run in a weird way. The owners insist on running the club like a sound business. That's fine but is that what a fan wants? A fan wants a guy like Roman owning a team who will piss away millions on the latest flavors of the month. The last couple of seasons they sold off their best players: Fabregas, Nasri, RVP. And now, out of the blue, they want to spend big money. Should have spent that money on re-signing those guys. No, let's bring in Giroud and Gervinho and hope Wilshere doesn't get injured for 6 months. Dipshittery to the max. They offered about 40 million pounds for Suarez. Liverpool would never sell for anything less than 50. They sold Torres for 50 to Chelsea and Suarez is younger and better. And why buy an expensive striker? Fix that back 4. Mertsesacker is slower than a retarded slug and Koscielny fucks up something every match. They could also use a swinging dick in midfield. A Viera type. I think Wenger is past it. I do credit him with doing a good managing job last season when I for sure felt they'd finally fall out of the top 4. But he's been there about 15 seasons and hasn't won fuck all in about a decade. Barring Spurs' colossal collapse last year, Arsenal would be in the Europa League.

i'm pretty sure that i can see admittedly long term logic of arsenal selling off their best players. from what i've gathered, arsenal doesn't have that billionaire sugar daddy who uses the franchise as a means of generating positive international PR. some people think that when you've got a dirty oligarch owning the club it should overshadow everything football, which is another matter from another day. (in that video, as matthew syed absolutely lights up abramovich it's funny to see the ex-footballer go "uhhhh let's just talk about the FOOTBALL"_

ahem. but yeah, arsenal financed their own new stadium in london proper, which isn't cheap to do.... figuring they took out loans/bonds/whatever, they've been in a position where that had to be their #1 focus for a time period lest they wanna end up in debt like real madrid, so even tho it's been a few years of "ok hey now we're REALLY ready to spend" i think we're hopefully starting to see the tip of the iceberg in terms of arsenal's ability/desire to sink some fiscal resources into top top quality for the first squad.

yeah, it'd be fucking brilliant to have RvP right now.... if you had a striking corps of RvP and giroud to run with ozil you'd feel much better about your chances for silverware/glory..... but i think they did a proper job of cashing out RvP for as much as they could after he finally put in a complete season leading the league in scoring, and cesc? well cesc...... that's his boyhood club... and didn't arsenal poach him from their youth system a long time ago in a galaxy far far away? when one of the 3 giants in world football (barca, real madrid, buyern) gives you a jingle and btw you grew up loving that team therefore getting rid of the soundtrack of the little boy in RvP, well shit... it happens, but hey, cesc gave them a lot of good years as he developed from a teenager into a creative force, and like, hey, the door swings both ways. you can't always go all brendan rodgers on everyone and start screaming "WE'RE NOT GOING TO SELL CESC TO ONE OF OUR CL RIVALS!!!!!"

also, alongside your call for a vieira type... i think they could also really use a pires type. definitely a henry type too. this is assuming that ozil is their bergkamp type.... but yeah, looking back @ the invincibles.... shit, pires was a very nifty scorer when the time called. if arsenal can acquire another attacker who's valued at ~20-40mil, shoot, they'll be in business as long as they marinate some squad depth in the backfield and manage to keep wilshire and ramsey and arteta on the pitch. right now it's hard to not be excited about ramsey, whose recent burst of goals have been a revelation cuz they tend to be the type of goals i've been yearning for all pre/season: dude runs up and kicks the ball really hard, thus propelling it into the net. not the typical arsenal fare of trying to be the cleverest guy in the room by trying to set up easier and easier goals.... when you've got daylight get in the fucking endzone!

so yeah, c'est la vie. i was ready to retire my footy rambling for the month but reading this made me reconsider...THAT = SHAKEN

yeah man.... my story is that last year i started watching the EPL as a neutral and starting with that heartbreaking loss @ the canaries (GRANT. FUCKING. HOLT.) i had a gut feeling that i wanted them to right the ship. by the end of the stretch run i was cursing tottenham and it was appointment television. this has been my first proper silly seaosn into a season supporting the club; fortunately in this day and age you're able to go on some internet safaris and you can catch up with a lot that's gone on with your team over the years.

there was a time early this year when i was literally telling my friend "man, it's be so much easier if i supported united [like he does]" cuz like, shit..... i was str8up face in hands by the ~55th minute of the marseille game. theo is football ben gordon, which means that sometimes when he uses his athleticism to get those awesome runs his inherent lack of a football brain kicks in and he turns out to have no handle in the clutch, resulting in one of those situations like the three glorious ops he missed in the first half against sunderland.

and the hits keep on coming, as stoke's another "must win" game as you wanna keep pace with the big boys for as long as you can this season. and of course liverpool hasn't figured out that they're destined for 7th place this year so the longer that the scouse boom cycle goes on, welp, that can't be good for the gunners.

so yeah, this x-fer season absorbing a lot of british coverage.... and man, it'd kinda be nice if they had a usamanov figure there to be sugar daddy and give piers morgan his nightly erection....it'd be nice to hear them linked with a higuain and then close it out in a week, as opposed to the chinese water torture that is media coverage of arsenal pursuing targets... but hey, in the end whenever they get back to winning silverware it'll be that much sweeter having survived all of this bullshit... it's not like being a united fan where winning a mere PL title = *yawn* or the FA cup is a consolation prize for not winning the PL/CL.... when it does happen, and i have a feeling it will somehow someway someday, it'll be that much sweeter having dealt with all of this bullshit.

in a twisted sense, it's almost endearing that arsenal isn't a proper mercenary squad.... united has that going for them as well, but still, i'm really interested to see if moyes can work any magic cuz we're about to find out a whole lot about how much SAF truly meant to united.

btw boyd, do you want arsene to extend or leave?

btw i'm REALLY FUCKING THANKFUL that ozil didn't end up @ united, cuz if he went there methinks the PL would be in a whole world of trouble... ozil/rooney/RvP up front would be a problem for the EPL.

I knew it wouldn't last. Liverpool came back down from the clouds today. I was hoping that at least it wouldn't happen against a newly promoted side at home. But Fuckface is coming back next week and that will help the attacking play.

Manchester derby tomorrow.

Mata in the doghouse at Chelsea, who lost to FC Basel at home midweek in the CL.

I still don't know what Mata did to be in the Mourhino doghouse. They still don't have a striker that can score. Wait, they do...he is on loan at Everton (Lukaku), who scored the winning goal against West Ham.

I love the Utd shitfest but they have some really easy fixtures coming up on paper. They looked awful yesterday, especially in midfield. No creativity.

I was against an extension until the Ozil signing. Now the news is coming out that the board is giving him more money to work with. He is a good manager, and he's been around for what seems like forever. With more money, if he can bring in an impactful striker in January, and they can bring home some hardware, I'm fine with it.

A middle of the road finish and no hardware, let's move on.

United is through to the 4th round against Chelsea in the Capital One Who Cares Cup after a 1-0 win over Liverpool. Javier Hernandez scores for the Devils.

Check that..United face Norwich City and Chelsea goes to the Emirates to face Arsenal in the 4th round of the Capital One Who Cares Cup.

In other news, Turkish slde Galatasary has fired their Turkish manager and have hired on a temporary basis as player-manager, former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. I kid u not.
