That's the best part. Big Voice Guy should get the afternoon shift.

HUB ARKUSH.

"Look, guys, hehehe, I mean, look."

HUB ARKUSH.

"I talked to Hub Arkush!"

HUB ARKUSH. HE WRITES FOR STUFF.

"I think the Bears could make a move."

HUB ARKUSH.

HUB ARKUSH.

"There are a lot of guys out there."

HUB ARKUSH. ON THE SCORE.

I fully support this idea, but before we go any further, we all need to acknowledge that any Hub Arkush song, no matter how hilarious, will always pale in comparison to BIGGS TIME.

This. This this this this this times a million. A great player can still be a bad pick. Hub was dead-on in declaring Long an overdraft, and that won't change even if he turns into Steve Hutchinson 2.0. Of course, to understand that, you'd have to have a basic comprehension of opportunity cost and marginal value, and most NFL fans just fell asleep reading that sentence.

Know what I'm excited for? Any minute now, some idiot's going to stride in here, hitch his thumbs in his belt, and declare the draft a "crapshoot."

Does Steve still do WYCs? His long rants against the Catholic Church, in all their deez-and-doze splendor, were so agonizing that I stopped listening to the segment altogether for a while.

So I guess you are an authority on dialectical thinking, then?

That's great, I'd love to get your thoughts on Althusser's reading of Marx re: the "epistemological break" embodied in The German Ideology. Do you find Althusser's argument convincing? Why or why not?

Also, in what sense could we say that Fredric Jameson replicates Marx's epistemological break in The Political Unconscious, arguably the most influential work of dialectical analysis written in the past half century?

Please do share. After all, I'm sure "Dialectic" is much more than some Polish guy's last name to you.

Shortly after the draft, Dan Pompei reported that the Cowboys, the Packers and a couple other teams drafting behind the Bears would have taken him in the first round.

Hub should auction off his creepy swinger earring for Childrens Octopus Services or whatever that obvious B&B pyramid scheme is.

Nope. I haven't knowingly read any Althusser. Tall Midget busted me like a cheap pinata, and that's that.

The Cowboys picked in front of the Bears but traded out of that spot so they were not as sold on him as Emery has said he was post draft.

Also, lineman flew off the board early so there were a few curious reaches later in the first round from suprising teams. The Giants are usually one of those solid drafting organizations and they took Pugh who will never be a LT. Later the Cowboys took Fredrick who, while being the top center, is not some all world prospect at the position like the Pounceys. I much prefer Long at the time of the draft and now to either of those guys.

I still think taking the 8th OL and 3rd OG is not value when you have what some rate the 1 DT (and top 3 technique), 2 CB or 1 TE when there is need. My opinion would only change if Long can eventually be a LT or those other guys bust out.

It's totally 1996's The Fan, with Dan in the Wesley Snipes role.

Good catch. Gotta protect their expert. Like I said, B&B used to cue up Hub's stupid comments when he did the Jauron show and beat the living shit out of Hubby boy back in the day. They kicked him. And kicked him. Then when he was dead, they would still kick him.

I'm with gd on this, though. His immediate objection most certainly was that he was overdrafted. That could still absolutely be true, even if the guy is a 6-year starter. He should have stuck to his guns for a while.

That's crap, though. Any player is only hypothetically 'overdrafted,' because no one really knows how actual teams actually have players rated. For all we know, the next team would have drafted Long. There's something to the idea, sure, but you can't go as strong on that idea as Hub did.

All Hub knew was that he didn't expect him to be drafted that high. He also expected the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl and they were the worst team in football. You would think Hub would have learned that his expectations don't mean much.

No, they're different guys. Slightly different call-in voices. Whitley was far more verbose. And he used to win all the sound-alike contests back when B&B was a fun show.

Whitley always struck me as a guy who was far smarter than Bernstein. And whereas the Shmutzies, TFMs, Quad Cities Pats, etc. seem intent on trying to impress Berns with their intellect, Whitley didn't have that element to his calls.

I think we can extrapolate from the value placed on the OG position in FA and in recent years in the draft. Just the year before, Emery passed on the top rated guard who fell to him in the draft while the Bears had an even more extreme need at the position. This year, he had to have the 3rd rated in a nearly identical slot. Overdraft is not just a matter of who else might have taken him and at which spot. It also has to consider what else is available when you draft (as someone else wrote "opportunity cost").

Look at the Steeler draft in that same time. They are a team that consistently takes talent irrespective of need when it falls to them. They are also, year to year, one of the best drafting teams in the NFL. In 2012 #1 rated OG DeCastro falls from a predicted top 15 all the way to 24 on draft day and they scoop him up. This year LB Jones who was a consensus top five pick at the beginning of the year and ultimately the first LB taken in the draft falls to them at 17. That's some smooth operating in my opinion.

If you told me TODAY that I could have DeCastro and Jones for Mc Clellin and Long, I would be happy to make that move.

Even more on point if you told me today that I could have DeCastro and Datone Jones (a OG and pass rusher available at the time of drafting in the last two years) instead of Mc Clellin and Long, I would make that move as well

Is Schmutzie the same person as Whitley In Ravenswood?

No, they're different guys. Slightly different call-in voices. Whitley was far more verbose. And he used to win all the sound-alike contests back when B&B was a fun show.

Whitley always struck me as a guy who was far smarter than Bernstein. And whereas the Shmutzies, TFMs, Quad Cities Pats, etc. seem intent on trying to impress Berns with their intellect, Whitley didn't have that element to his calls.

Yeah, I was thinking Whitley was he verbose one, but then I remembered a Schmutzie call where he seriously went for like two fucking minutes just doing hey-how-are-yas and general bullshitting, and I thought maybe he changed his name.

I have your recording (at least I think it's your recording) of Whitley winning a Fred Huebner Soundalike Contest by giving a scoreboard update about English soccer and "Turdlington Cup action." Good stuff.

When Floyd, Eifert and Ogletree fell to the Bears I was in disbelief. Long will be a good player but he's still just a guard. Last year was worse as Emery wanted a pass rusher and passed on Chandler Jones and Nick Perry. Would've been nice if Bears picked Perry so Packers wouldn't have him miscast as a 3-4 'backer.
