I get a lot of shit from reason for drinking martinis with vermouth. But if you don't add vermouth, its just straight gin. So that's not a martini.
Anyway I shouldn't be adding to tonic to my gin either.
Ok, don't put any more than a drop and I mean a DROP of water into your Scotch and for the love of god don't use ice. That's insane. Use a damn whisky rock.
Oh yeah I put my scotch in the freeze too. Neat and a frozen rock but not warm, jesus that's what my old fart uncles do.
I used to love a lime in my corona but since I have become old as shit it gives me heartburn now. Prick fuck limes. Bastards.

I agree with you that vermouth makes the martini a martini. Enough of these wave the bottle over it types.

I will say no water in the scotch, but ice cubes are fine.

Definitely cool w/ storing alcohol in the freezer. It is just the right thing to do. Anyone who doesn't keep vodka in their freezer is a Communist.

I like lime, but can live without it.

A Scotch and soda is the classic highball. In fact, I think the term highball referred specifically to Scotch and soda at one time. Johnnie Black and soda, that's my drink. Refreshing, delicious, and you sound cool ordering it.

I would agree that with the proliferation of the Scotch snobs and so many top shelves loaded with single malts, it's a sin to pour soda water over The Macallan 18 or something. I can remember when The Glenlivet was the top shelf brand to end all top shelf brands. These days you might find it on the speed rail. An exaggeration, yes, but not by much.

I'm also old enough to remember The Glenlivet as a top shelfer, Rodney. Shark moment aside, all of the Johnny come lately snobs have made everything more expensive for all of us, both bourbon and scotch, fucking hipsters. The Glenlivet is still my everyday single of choice.

How refined can your taste be when you don't even know how to spell it correctly?

decent irish single malts, like knappogue castle or tyrconnell or the private label bottles Binny's sells--best not to sully with any spring water or ice cube faggotry.

blends like powers or tullamore? Not criminal if you do, but still better if you don't.

Red Breast, which I'm not really sure if it's a blend or what, tastes best if you add spring water til it turns urine sample yellow; which is probably a good rule for blends.

Yeah, I agree.

LIke I'm go into a bar and order a scotch on the rocks, and them complain that the drink literally doesn't have rocks sitting in it.

THANK YOU.

Why one wants to drink gin, unless they're getting paid to, is well beyond my reach. The only reason one can stomach a Tom Collins is because the gin generally goes through it on stilts.

In Scotland they bring you a tiny little pitcher of water for your dram of whisky.

When I drank gin, it was always either a vermouth-included martini or a Tom Collins.

 I took crap on Twitter from jackref and redskingreg the other day for my love of Redd's apple ale. And I look forward to trying the strawberry version, too!
