then rockstar hit a homerun again. every gta game that comes out people think its gone too far. thats what they want. gta5 is in headlines now for the torture scene- including waterboarding and all.

its what gta is. groundbreaking. they go all the way to the "xxx adult" rating then pull it back just enough to get it on store shelves.

$270 million to make over 5 years..... $800 million in sales in the first 24hrs. this is more profitable then the big blockbuster movies.... i think gta just became a monster all on its own. its not a video game, its grand theft auto.

Caught this last night and it gave me a few laughs as a guy who doesn't play any modern video games.
Game looks pretty amazing.

I got the last copy Target had in stock last night.

Good advice I learned very early: Don't bail out of your car while you are airborne attempting a stunt jump. Bad idea...

I think a testament to the quality of R*s games is how many things you can point out that are bad and still feel like it's a great game. Interested to see what they can patch though. The garages eating expensive/customized cars is annoying, so for now I just stick with the characters starting vehicles and have Franklin use the chop shop he bought for free upgrades.

Decent enough ending. Save the assassination missions to the end if you want any shot at buying all the properties.

I had fun in single player, beat it rather quickly and I'm about 93% done with the entire game (side missions and collectibles).

Online is great but having some issues at the moment.

I got this game over the weekend as a gift from the girlfriend and have been amazed at how much there is to do without actually accomplishing anything. I have been strictly an XBOX guy so this is the first GTA game I have played and I love it.

I probably mentioned it before, but I went to my friends house to play GTA III for the first time back in the day. I thought it was going to be a few hours, and I ended up staying until the wee hours of the morning. I was hooked. When Vice City came out, I remember times when I would get home on a Friday night and played that game all the way until Monday morning, only taking breaks to piss and sleep.

Yea, I played from 10pm on Saturday night until about 5am and didn't even realize it was that late/early. Can't wait to put in another long session this weekend!!

I never learned how to fly the dodo. I hate flying in the game. It took me about 10 tries to land the plane correctly in one of Trevor's first missions.

Remember flight school in San Andreas? That alone took me two weeks to do.

The online is pretty decent. Sure, it's filled with people calling you "genius" every minute, but if you're always playing with them you need to get some friends online instead. Bought the cheap 80k apartment with a 2 car garage last night and hit level 15. Seems like R* is focusing dlc on online and not single player, should be interesting.

Hoping this thread isn't entirely dead.

Found myself with some extra sheckles, and finally got around to getting this. My God, Trevor is a fucking delight.

In the game (not the ghey online shit), can one purchase more garages to store cars in? The internet is kinda failing me on that question. FWIW, for an idea as to how far along, I've done the second paying heist, have another car for Devon, have the Mexican's old lady up at Trevor's trailer ... anything I should know going forward? Aside from the stock market, how the hell would a person make tens of millions of dollars to buy some of those damnable properties?

Speaking of the online shit ... I got turned off real fast by the dreadful character creation and the second mission where you're supposed to get the drugs or whatever didn't really work out too well and I was none too soon in just shutting the damnable game off before finishing it. Would love if someone could change my opinion on the online deal, so if you're in the mood, give it a whirl.

You can only really get rich enough to buy everything by playing the market while doing the assassination missions, but you need the money from the final heist to make it worthwhile. Each character has a garage at their house as well as their car that respawns outside it. Franklin gets the bike and a car. I think there's one purchaseable garage, but I'm not positive because I think I got it as a special edition bonus.

Online is hit and miss. I enjoy racing so I spend about 90% of online doing it. I'll try a mission every once in a while.

It's fun to do that in online. Can get a little tiring in the regular game.

Oh do I detest the racing ... I don't know why ... but I do ... my loss entirely, I know.

Is there a very small window of time to profit from the Assassination missions? Better said - do I have to do my investing right at the start of the mission, or can I wait until I'm done (and can invest w/ all three people), and how soon do I have to sell off everything?

I presume that if I wanted to go back and replay a mission that I cannot reap the rewards again (e.g., I can't replay the jewel heist and get money for it again) correct?

I'm not saying the racing part is the best part of online, just that there may be some part of online you do like and you can just stick to that and ignore the rest.

I'd Google the stock thing specifically, but the gist of it is before you accept each assassination mission invest all your money on your three characters on the right stock. After the assassination, usually around 1-3 game days you sell the stock and put it all back in that stock's competitor. Wait a few days again and sell. The guide will tell you what %profit to sell at. Just sleep a few times or drive around and check every once in a while.

correct, you can't redo missions for rewards, only to get golds.

Tempted to pick up the Xbox One version but I figure I'll wait for when I have some free gaming time...

...that being said, I'd be remiss if I didn't bring this up. Wonder how many people made this connection when they announced the first person mode for the next gen consoles.

This story made my day: http://abc7chicago.com/news/line-of-gamers-camping-out-for-gta-release-robbed/400389/

Quote:
HOUSTON -- Armed robbers targeted a group of gamers who were waiting for a new video game release at a GameStop in northwest Harris County.

Around 9:30 p.m. Monday night, three men wearing hoodies and masks walked into the GameStop off FM 1960 at Veterans Memorial and held the employees and customers at gunpoint.

The suspects used a Taser on one customer before robbing everyone of their money and cell phones. The crooks also took cash from the store's register.

The clerk managed to place a tracking device in the bag with the cash, but deputies found the device a short time later on Wonderlich and FM 1960 where the suspects had thrown the it out of the window.

The customer who was Tased was not taken to the hospital. No one else got hurt.

Deputies are still searching for the three armed robbers.
