Hank, you're way too intelligent to be that naïve.

Grandma Peeps gave me shots of Old Style at age 3 and I look how I turned out.

It's not funny but I'm one of those people who also don't think it's cute when parents let their kids taste their beer/wine/alcoholic drink.

That kid will also have seen a million beer commercials by the time they reach the legal drinking age, but everybody seems cool with that.

I'm not naïve to think kids won't eventually try alcohol even against parent wishes. I think it sends all kinds of wrong messages to be permissive about it in any way.

I sorta of think the opposite. Make it off limits and it becomes more desirable. Do you let them taste want you have or is it zero tolerance?

Call me when there's a beer commercial marketed towards kids.

If a baby wants to get drunk what right does the government or society have to tell them they can't?

Yeah, there's no way cigarette or alcohol ads would ever do that.

Budweisers always seem kid friendly to me. Heineken had one with a game controller. Any athlete ones attract kids too.

You (OKC) honestly think booze companies don't take into account the effects of advertising to underage kids?

People would surprise you.

Yeah, people are crazy. I'm sure as I speak some mom is blowing weed smoke in their infants face or something like that.

I just cant believe that a parent would be so reckless not to mention reckless in public.

Somebody I know.......grew up where there was a guy who had brought his little kid about 3 years old in the bar, which in and of itself wasn't a big deal, kids just sit off to the side, sometimes they had table-monitor games of Pac-Man, but this yahoo decided to start giving the kid beer.

Well, even the old school good ol' boys wouldn't go for that and called the cops on him. It was breaking news in the weekly paper.

At least it's not weed, or caffeine.

Not sure what the spuds ads, etc. have to do with the inappropriateness of that picture.

Absolutely. Not even mildly amusing.

Plus, every alcoholic I know has the "cute" memory of drinking dad's beer as a yute. I'm not an abolishinist, but starting the kid out that way isn't very smart.

I have no control over outside influences. I have control over the message I send and I would think my opinion would have influence over that of commercials. I see and have seen through the years far too many parents who promote a culture of drinking. It seems to me the kids in these families also begin drinking at an early age. I will also throw in my gross stereotype/generalization but this culture seems to be more common in ethnic Irish households.

Now have at me, I've probably earned it

Well, I have seen far too many families promoting a culture of changing a lightbulb as a communal endeavor, but you don't see me trotting out any ethnicities to qualify my observations.

That woman was obviously trying to get her baby drunk. There is no other possible explanation. I've already dialed DCFS and issued a formal complaint. I've also contacted the NAACP just to cover all of my bases.

Get it? Bases? Baseball?

You cited some examples, so huzzah for you. I still fail to see what that has to do with the picture. You attempted to change the argument, and unfortunately I fell for it.

Not really sure why you're arguing with me. My initial post summed it up pretty well. "That kid will also have seen a million beer commercials by the time they reach the legal drinking age, but everybody seems cool with that." Your reply to the thread "Absolutely. Not even mildly amusing" would lead me to believe that you see a problem with underage drinking so I'd think you too would agree that the pervasiveness of beer ads children and teens consume in there formative years is a bad thing™ for them. Unless you honestly think some beer commercials aren't marketed towards kids.
