Who was the last guy that could hit and play the position on either side of town that strung together at least 3 or 4 very good seasons?

The only Cubs player is Jerry Morales. Before you laugh, check out his stats.

The Sox,do I have to go back to Jungle Jim Riveria?

No, you have to go back to Lance Johnson.

Or Aaron Rowand

I really thought Jerome Walton was the real deal. How did that guy fall off so quickly?

1 Dog was sort of opposite of a typical CF people want now or that Cub fans fall in love with in AA. He was always fast and a fielder but his hitting did not come around reliably until the second half of his career. He was in demand when Sox got rid of him.

How many great CF are in the game right now?

Franchise Player Tier

Trout
McCutchen

All Star Tier

Adam Jones
Jacoby Ellsbury
Carlos Gomez

That's 5 CF out of 30 teams.. that I would describe as one might make a case for "great"... 16.7% of teams. I guess we could make arguments for Matt Kemp or Austin Jackson, but most teams are in the pile of good-but-not-great-CF like Gardner, Bourn, Crisp, Jennings, etc. It's not so easy to find one.. Bravos threw a pile of cash at BJ Upton and his .570 OPS.
Or, maybe that wasn't the point of this thread... a vehicle for Meatball Pasta to wax poetic about middling veterans of his yute...

Lance would probably be the first non-roidy CF who had consecutive good seasons. Other than that, I'd say Rowand.

I had high hopes for Doug Glanville. Then he was traded for Mickey Morandini, and then he had a few good years in Philly.

Daryl Boston was supposed to be all that.

Mostil prolly best Sox CF of all time. Sad organization.
