A good day so far. ManYoo and Citeh both loose. Tottenham draw. And the Gunners are on in 20 minutes. A win will put them on top (for now).

Arsenal top of the table. Mein Gott. Mon Dieu. Could it be their year?

This Man United thing...is a thing. Decent human beings across the planet are in rapturous ecstasy. West Broom at OT? Eight points behind the Arse already. Dumpster Fire Watch commencing.

Fuckface made his PL return yesterday and won Liverpool the match.

meh, hopefully bitey mcfuckyourrace is busy auditioning for a move to RM or milan or something as opposed to actually putting out his heart and soul for the scousers. despite his breakout season last year they still managed 7th, altho if sturridge is able to retain his form alongside suarez this could be a problem for the rest of the top-6.

one thing i'd point out to the man U people who talk about how it took SAF 5 years and all that is that this 2013-14 manU side ain't anywhere near the team that SAF took over ~27yrs ago or whatever. the game has changed, there's a bunch of unlimited-$$$ oligarchs around the continent, not to mention that you yourself have become an international brand that's selling shirts in shops on tiny indonesian islands, let alone the rest of asia/america/etc. i don't think it's good business for the glazers to endure a liverpoolian ~3-4 year fall from grace, even if the result is maximizing the effectiveness of moyes in the long term. it very well might prove to be that you need a manager far better than moyes in order to compete at the top of the european game in today's football world.

the united team was already getting old and creaky under SAF (even scholes had to come back for another year) and now without him there to provide excellent management it's starting to show it's vulnerabilities under a lesser capable manager. expectations for the united team in the late 80s are night and day from with what they are now, and if he somehow manages to fall out of those 4 CL spots this year I think we're going to have to start waking up at the break of dawn to check and see if SAF is riding in on a white horse.... or hey maybe mourinho shits the bed at chelsea and decides to take that united job he always wanted anyways and show roman just who the truly special one is? a man can dream, can't he?

as for arsenal, the squad is far too threadbare for my liking and despite their run of quality down the stretch after the new year last season, i'm afraid that they'll not be able to keep up this run of form if they keep getting new injuries popping up at even 1/3 of the rate that they have early this season. you're an injury and a half away from a dicey DM situation, and that's purposely trying to avoid bringing up the giroud side of things. bendtner was still pretty shitty out there during the CC match, and seeing him warming up on the sidelines on saturday had me ready to stand up and start pacing back and forth.

there's another international break coming.... at least walcott/cazorla/rosicky should be held out of it, cuz holy crap even sanogo and zelalem got hurt during the last one. i have this sinking feeling that jack or ramsey will be lost by the end of the next one. so yeah, at this juncture in time and space i'm not even thinking about the end of the season.... i just wanna see this team still rolling along at this time next month, when we're in the midst of a serious run of scheduling (scousers, city, @dortmund, etc)

talk to me come mid-late november and i'll have a much better idea.

On the plus side, whenever ManYoo looks like shit at home, NBCSN is kind enough to cut between shots of Sir Alex looking angry and Moyes looking like he wants to cry.

I'm curious. Now that the red-nosed Scot is gone from Old Trafford. Does that make Wenger the longest serving manager in the Premier League. I think it does.

It's not even close. Wenger's at 17 years and the next closest won't even hit 3 until December.

Sturridge and Suarez are, in the words of Johnny Utah, "fucking amazing!" Going to the Emirates next Satuday.

Joe Hart...still kinda bad. That muppet defender deserves some of the blame on the Torres goal. Hart might bet bumped from Man City and En-guh-lund.

I still think Hart's pretty good. But I'm getting proven wrong.

The problem for Roy Hodson is. Who do you put in to replace Hart. I think Hart is England's number 1 because no one is better.

That's true. There is no one else. Woy has till next summer to figure it out. Perchance Hart returns to his form of two years ago.

Palace to interview Tony Pulis?

Also heard Martin O'Neill. He'd be a better hire than the Tracksuit and Baseball Cap.

as an arsenal fan this SAS thing going on in the land of the kopsuckers is a bit troubling. obviously i'm not running out there claiming a title just yet(if you wanna get really technical about it, somebody compared their run of fixtures this year compared to the identical matchups last year (i.e. the same teams and where they played) and arsenal actually had more points from those fixtures than last year, which provides a bit of an ominous undertone heading into the date with the scousers this wknd.

arsenal's gonna give up a couple'a goals.... but if they chump out or even worse get shut down by the scouse, welp, you might never walk alone, but you'll certianly walk with a bunch of less $$$ and even less of a chance to get those players of "top, top quality" if you're playing football on thursdays next season.

ergo, taking 3 from those scouse Caller Bobs would be huge right now. the longer they keep on going like they're a title contender the more confidence they'll get and then the worst thing ever will happen: brendan rodgers will be recognized for his unmistakeable greatness!

Image

(yeah, i got sick of his pedantic overtones ad nauseum when he was going on and on during that suarez debacle. he talks about loyalty and honoring the team/contracts and shit, but like, didn't he do the same exact thing when he either joined or left swansea? yeah my thoughts exactly. my only regret this weekend is that ass-pass is injured so he won't be out there to help the arsenal cause)

Seems like every time Liverpool go to the Emirates a clusterfuck ensues. They never looked in the game. I didn't, at any point of extreme delusional optimism, expect a victory; but I did think a draw was possible.

The Toon beat Chelsea. Mourinho is despondent.

Joe Hart rode the pine as City hung a touchdown and an extra point on Norritch.

dortmund v arsenal.... ughhhhas;lkd;aslkd. mannn please for the love of god you gunners get a point out of this (or at least don't have arteta go off with a red) and then it's united on sunday for the 2nd week in a row of the biggest match of the year.

but if you lot haven't gotten a healthy dose of dortmund manager jurgen klopp.... holy shit the dude's priceless. his presser heading into this arsenal fixture had so many great quotes that i'm just gonna dump the text here. enjoy.

(nicked from http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... pp-arsenal )

Jürgen Klopp is pondering the similarities between himself and Arsène Wenger, between his Borussia Dortmund team and Arsenal which, on the face of it, appear to be numerous. Klopp, however, does not see it. "He likes having the ball, playing football, passes … it's like an orchestra," the Dortmund manager says, pretending to play the violin. "But it's a silent song, yeah? I like heavy metal."

Klopp's every entrance ought to be accompanied by a cymbal crash and it is no great stretch to imagine him laying into the speakers with a guitar. There is a wildness about the Dortmund frontman; a high-octane, all-or-nothing passion that overtakes him on match days. It feeds his explosive team and the 80,645 supporters that pack the club's Westfalenstadion, where 25,000 stand behind one of the goals to form the Yellow Wall. The place teems with energy and intensity. It is Klopp's home from home.

"For me, he is Sir Arsène Wenger, he is really something, I love him," Klopp adds, before miming a polite handshake. "But I'm this guy, with high fives. I always want it loud. I want to have this … " Klopp makes the sound of an exploding bomb. (An article with him demands stage direction).

"If Barcelona's team of the last four years were the first one that I saw play when I was four years of age ... with their serenity, winning 5-0, 6-0 … I would have played tennis. Sorry, that is not enough for me. What I love is that there are some things you can do in football to allow each team to win most of the matches.

"It is not serenity football, it is fighting football – that is what I like. What we call in German – English [football] … rainy day, heavy pitch, everybody is dirty in the face and they go home and can't play football for the next four weeks. This is Borussia.

"When I watch Arsenal in the last 10 years, it is nearly perfect football, but we all know they didn't win a title. In Britain they say that they like Arsenal but they have to win something. Who wins the title? Chelsea, but with different football, I would say. This is the philosophy of Arsène Wenger. I love this but I cannot coach this because I am a different guy. You think many things are similar? I hope so in some moments, but there are big differences, too."

Klopp will face Wenger in Dortmund on Wednesday night, in Champions League Group F, knowing that a repeat of the victory at Emirates Stadium the week before last would put his team in the driving seat to qualify. That 2-1 win was built on trademark pressing and quick transitions but what appeared to please Klopp the most was the statistic that said his players had run a collective 11.5km more than their opponents.

"Coaches will say that it's not important for their team to run more and they prefer to make games the right way," Klopp says. "I want to make games only the right way and run 10km more. It's a rule to give all and it can make the difference if you work more. If you don't have to give all and you still win, what's this? You don't like this game? It's like this [Klopp yawns]. What, you can win Wimbledon like this?"

Klopp peppers the conversation with tennis references. He was not impressed when his own meltdown at the fourth official that saw him sent off in the Champions League defeat at Napoli in September was attributed, in some quarters, to the pressure he felt. "No, I make this fucking face when I play tennis. That's the truth."

The 46-year-old is a talker, and he adds flavour with anecdotes and detail; some insightful, others more off-the-wall. He admits to being rubbish at DIY, for example. "You'd be waiting 30 or 40 years for me to build a table," he says. "I have more than two left hands."

He remembers his one and only meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson as lasting for two minutes and coming "during the most shitty moment of my life". He encountered Ferguson at Wembley after Dortmund had lost last season's Champions League final to Bayern Munich. "He said 'great season' to me," Klopp says, before indicating how his own chin had been on the floor.

It would be interesting to hear what Ferguson thinks of Klopp's look – the jeans and trainers and black-rimmed spectacles – given his more traditional sartorial values. "I don't think I have a chapter in his book," Klopp says. "Chapter One: How is Klopp looking?

"I'm sorry, he is British," Klopp continues. "You drink tea at four o'clock in the afternoon and nobody else knows why in the rest of the world. You drive on the wrong side of the road. We are different. But I'm sure I can have two days and two nights with Sir Alex Ferguson. I don't know what he drinks. Red wine, OK. He can have his red wine. I prefer beer.

"But we are like we are. He worked with Ryan Giggs for 20-odd years and when Ryan Giggs hears Ferguson's name, he doesn't go like this [Klopp pretends to vomit]. That is the best you can do in your life. Every day, every year, all the talk ... you know everything about this guy and you still like each other. That says everything about Sir Alex Ferguson."

Klopp loves to laugh and his is a very big laugh. He jokes that his ugly face is one problem and he turns to the journalist from the Sun. "You have the same problem," he says, uproariously. He has all the trimmings of the charismatic maverick and it is put to him that he would get on well with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with whom he would like to work. "Crazy players love me," Klopp says. "I don't know why."

He is relaxed and engaging when he does not have his must-win game-face on and it is easy to see why the Dortmund players like him and, to quote the midfielder Nuri Sahin, will "run through walls for him". Most importantly, Klopp gets results. He has the highest points-per-game ratio of any Dortmund coach in history, together with two Bundesliga titles and one German cup.

It has combined to make him an attractive proposition and the predators have sniffed, particularly from the Premier League. Klopp does not want to say that Manchester City and Chelsea wanted him before they appointed Manuel Pellegrini and José Mourinho respectively – to him it is in the past – but the references are almost matter of fact.

"I know that some clubs were interested, of course," he says. "They thought about us. You know these clubs … they changed coaches last season. Man City? But I don't say anything about this. From other countries, they were also interested."

Many Arsenal fans believe that Klopp would be tailor-made as Wenger's eventual successor. Like Wenger, he came from a small club (Mainz in 2008); he promotes young players; he is wedded to an entertaining style and he hunts for answers when key personnel depart. Klopp has lost Sahin, Shinji Kagawa and Mario Götze over the past three summers, although Sahin has since returned, and he will lose Robert Lewandowski as a Bosman free agent next summer. Klopp believes that renewal is essential for progress.

But Arsenal and anyone else would have to wait until 2018, at least, for Klopp. He signed a new contract at Dortmund last Wednesday and he could not have been clearer about his intention to honour it. He had previously been contracted to 2016 and there was no pressure from either side to agree to the extension. But they did it because they wanted to; because the partnership feels right.

"Borussia Dortmund is the only club in the world where if I speak to a young player, he knows that I am his coach for the next four-and-a-half years," Klopp says. "We want to have this situation. The players are similar to the journalists. They always think: 'Ah, he says this and then Real Madrid call and he is away.' But this is the message: Everybody can call but nothing will happen. This is for sure and then we will see what's with the players.

"It makes me proud to hear that some Arsenal fans might want me, but it's not important for me to be proud. My mother is proud. It's a better feeling than if nobody knows me but it doesn't help me in the morning, it doesn't help me in the evening and it doesn't help me through the day."

Klopp's connection with Dortmund is total. He talks emotively about how the club is "worth falling in love with because this is pure football" and, also, the unique thrill of emerging from the dark and narrow tunnel at the Westfalenstadion, in which he has to stoop at various points, to be assailed by the colour and noise.

"It's a little bit like when you are born and your mother is [Klopp makes a face like a woman in labour]. Then, you come out and you see the best of the world," he says.

Klopp is the incurable romantic. To him Dortmund are the Rebel Alliance to Bayern's Death Star, but his club can compete. The players have an average age of 25 and they will enter their prime years over the course of Klopp's contract. "The important thing is new ideas, not money," he says. "It is important to make the next step. You always want to be the team that can beat the one with more money."

HOLY FUCKING FUCKITY FUCK FUCKING SHITBALLS YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ARSENAL GOT 3PTS @ DORTMUND!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY JESUS HORATIO CHRIST IMPALED ON LIBERACE'S MAJESTIC CUM EXCALIBUR ARSENAL WENT TO DORTMUND AND NOT ONLY GOT 3PTS, BUT HELD THEM SCORELESS FOR THE 2ND TIME IN THEIR LAST 61 HOME GAMES

i'm going to actually shutup now.... words can't describe how great this feeling is, and what a fucking shot in the arm of confidence going into the huge fixture with united on sunday. prolly the biggest united/arsenal game since the 07-08 season (where arsenal finished 3rd but only 4pts off of the champs) and man.... Dortmund was clearly missing gundogan and i have no idea why aubameyang didnt start (he scares me) and the lack of gotze to help facilitate for lewandowski is showing..... and shit kagawa will prolly be back next year... but who cares. nobody can whine to me as an arsenal fan about injuries cuz did you look at those subs today? everyone's a defensive/emergency sub except for bendtner, who played the brian scalabrine role of victory cigar brilliantly today..

so for those of you KEEPING SCORE(tm) at home, arsenal is 5pts clear atop the EPL table, and now they're atop their CL group tied with napoli @ 9pts, but arsenal has a 2 goal advantage in terms of goal difference. i saw that marseille had tied napoli at 2-2 in the second half, but you knew their golden goal was coming at some point.... yeah not a golden goal semantically speaking as it didnt end the game, but it was the game winner.

so yeah basically i have this sinking gut feeling that marseille is gonna play their game of the season @ the emirates on 26 nov, meaning that arsenal has to grind hard and get 3pts (hopefully by then theo, flamini, and maybe even podolski are back. shit at this point i almost hope sanogo's back cuz nothing against bendtner, ok, plenty against bendtner.... i wanna see at least 2 offensive subs on the squad cuz the most remarkable thing about this team's early season success is that arsenal has no margin for error. they've been ravaged by injuries (cuz all of their damn players are on their country's national teams) and like, for fuck's sake... even without gundogan, klopp could bring in aubameyang as a sub whilst wenger can bring in..... bendtner.

oh and of course he can bring in the player i've nicknamed "the home stretch" - nacho monreal. i call him that cuz he isn't quite a victory cigar; moreover when wenger brings him in it's usually ~65-75' with arsenal protecting a 1-2 goal lead as they prepare to head down the home stretch. ergo, nacho "the home stretch" monreal.

so yeah man, arsenal spent pretty much all of the first half not looking like a threatening side whatsoever (UK pundits would no doubt point out the "handbrake" and my personal favorite, that arsenal wasn't playing with "urgency") and i swear to you guys, right around the 80' mark a graphic popped up that had dortmund at 14 shots (~8 on target) whilst arsenal had 2 shots (2 on target) --- methinks arsenal got 2-3 more shots in, same with dortmund, so when you're outshot something like ~18-5 and still able to get that improbable and quite-frankly-at-the-time-undeserved goal circa ~62-63' and then ready the side of nachos.... yeah man....just FUCKING YEAH WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i prayed for 1pt today. that's all i asked the good lord for, and believe you me i felt like a dinglebait doing so.... however 3 fucking pts at dortmund? YES!

The Gunners are good, Sini. I don't think we're looking at the typical 4th place finish this season.

Ramsey has becomes quite the player this season. The next Welsh Pele (apologies to Senor Bale). The Arsenal are flexing their nuts atop the group of death. I wouldn't start blowing each other over being first in the Prem just yet, gents. Too early. Squeaky bum time is far into the future. However, you can commence with the mutual hand jobs if they win at OT.

That Chelsea call... someone should check that ref's betting habits.

Good win for Newcatle this morning. Now I'm excited to watch Sunderland blow this 1-0 lead over City.

Fun attacking derby at Goodison today. I was hoping for a point. Didn't expect a win. Dowd is a fucker for not sending off Mirallas. Studs were up.

once joe allen adds going forward to his game he's gonna be pretty good. he's got the lateral movement and backpedaling thing down pat.

still tho, goddamn man, that final goal came in the 88th minute so we were THAT FUCKING CLOSE to the scouse dropping all 3 points and falling further behind arsenal and now chelsea (who i have to believe held on to get to 25pts, 3 behind the arsenal)

good solid win for arsenal today.... i dont think we saw the best from soton but we also saw why they've got a bright future. thank god their goalie decided to have an inexplicable adventure today and graciously hand giroud the breakthrough goal to give arsenal some breathing room which eventually led to the penalty which led to the second goal. shomer shabbos.

in the EPL where any team can win on any given week (but one of only ~4-5 teams can win the title) arsenal has to handle their business against the tomato cans cuz i think they've got city, chelsea, and everton coming up b4 year's end.

oh yeah and arsenal has to close out their CL group and bust their asses to try and finish first so they dont get their annual barca/buyern/madrid match in the first knockout round. that's gonna be huge cuz last year despite that inspirational win @ buyern they still managed to get thoroughly pasted @ the emirates to get properly knocked out. COYG!

So, does the AVB sack watch start up? That was...not good. I think Aguero and Fuckface both have more goals than Spurs' entire squad this season. Bale really was paper over the cracks. What the fuck woke up City? They were all over Spurs. Wouldn't let them do anything.

big match for arsenal in about an hour (9:50am NBCSN) versus everton, who are coming off of a triumphant win over >moyeschester united and are hanging out circa 5th/6th in the table (i wanna say they're ~24pts?)

arsenal, of course, seem to have tickled the fancy of the football gods YET AGAIN as southampton managed to keep city's road blues alive (they were 4/18pts before a win last week, so if they were 7/21 now they're 8/24; thanks soton) and chelsea had the prototypical "on a cold [early-evening] in stoke" outing where jose mourinho proved yet again that playing attractive football is not to the benefit of the mourinho style, so it makes you wonder if/when mata goes to PSG for 25-35mil and then, you know, makes you wonder if they shoulda sold david luiz to barca for ~25mil as it had been bantied about...

which means that good ol alex song is available, and hey having an offensive-minded DM who's already got a rapport with assisting van persie would make too much sense, so it's not gonna happen. idk what >moyeschester united can do but considering they're hearkening comparisons to the 86/87 squad with SAF (which was a time and place where "the biggest football club in the world" wasn't exactly selling toasters that put the united crest on your toast) but they gotta do something....

so yeah, here sits arsenal with a 34-30 lead over chelsea and the scousers heading into a match with the scouserettes, who play a solid brand of mid-table/+ football under roberto martinez (meanwhilst the wigan guy in #soccer seems to think they're going down to league one this year. yeargh) and well, thus far save a blemish with aston villa and the draw @ WBA, they've had the form.... they're handling the tomato cans.... and well, coming out and getting another early goal would be huge.... ozil's a total bumslayer thus far, but since only 34/114 points in the prem come from playing the otehr top-6 opponents, playing bums is most of your schedule and thus it's great to have ozil, even if a good % of his effect on the squad is wholly psychological in that "we got the #1 transfer in the prem this year!" meanwhile mourinho was only concerned with playing headgames with AVB @ spurs(oh you think you can just get whoever you want with bale $$$? look now AVB, willian is ours. thanks for the medical) and city.... welp the jovetic negredo (my favorite mixed drink) doesn't play defense, and kompany isn't fully fit and he's still out there.... and i've even seen an obligatory micah richards to arsenal link insomuchas bacary sagna seems to wanna pop out of arsenal after his contract is up, and their in house guy carl jenkinson is more offensive minded but not quite as stout/calming on defense as sagna. so we'll see what happens.

so yeah during a season where the x-fer window brought united shame, chelsea got a statement at AVB, city is as city does, and the scoursers seemed to make the best moves going forward..... let alone tott'nam, here's another golden opportunity for arsenal to add to a 4pt lead b4 their next two matches are @city/chelsea, along with the CL group stage finale @ napoli on the docket (get any point/s and you win the group, which is key cuz even tho arsenal has ~13 str8 knockout-stages-apps in the CL they usually come in 2nd in their group and end up against barca or buyern in the round-of-16.... so here's hoping they can get a better draw and make it to the QF) --- well, during this goofy season arsenal is showing some form, some spine, and showing that when everything's changing around you it's nice to have the steady presence of arsene wenger around cuz a proper win today has them 7 points clear up top the table b4 one of the hardest runs of games they've got in this year's prem. poldolski and the ox are coming back for christmas (taking over diaby's traditional role of their returns "being like a new signing") and well, the defensive backs are playing well and their midfield has been amongst the best in the league and even without a proper world-class "oh shit" striker (or at least one who can score outside of london. look it up) giroud's doing his thing and these last few matches jack wilshere has looked otherworldly, getting the ball and immediately heading into dangerous positions leading mini/breaks @ the opponent's goal..... that's why i figure today he'll start up on a wing up front with ozil/cazorla/giroud, whilst the arteta/ramsey duo goes to show that flamini, who's had a truly badass return season, is depth.

and i can dig walcott on the bench, i mean hell we even saw him get his wish and play forward-center last week which is what he wants to do, altho naturally big bad bendtner got the score.

so yeah come on you gunners.... getting up 7pts heading into @city/chelsea and knowing that no matter what happens you're still atop the league after those two = huge.... and yeah... idk. being new to this i have no idea what to expect and i'm enjoying it thus far..... even if i'm set to be a nervous wreck the entire game. sagna's out so i wonder if we get monreal or jenkinson in his place? time will tell.

also, luis suarez. good god that's gotta be a rub to scouser nation in that he's proving so class the inevitable barca/real mindgame/sale is coming and then, potentially, they could see him go and destroy england en route to a big world cup run and then leave liverpool, who will have to hang their hat on "well hey at least we beat united for the final CL spot" which, believe it or not, would prolly make their season.

</soccer>
