I was sitting in the 3rd row at midfield when he rolled left and threw on the run from the 42 on a rope to the opposite corner of the end zone and hit Mike Bellamy on the hands.

Greatest throw I've ever seen.

He really did have an incredible arm. Saw him make a similar throw w/ the Raiders and it was effortless. Just a flick of the wrist.

Too lazy to look up stats. But, for five seasons or so, Warner was pretty damn good. Then B&B had the voodoo priestess put some bad jou jou on him.

To BRick... we can't use any stats? Not sure what other objective comparison we can use then.

You can use stats but you can't rely solely on them. Not seeing Elway and others play makes it difficult to understand how much the rules changed the game.

You are the one who compared the stats of Manning and Elway. You just have to put it in perspective that Philip Rivers is on pace to far exceed Elway too.

Of course you can use statistics but when comparing QB's from different eras it really isn't fair. That's why playoff wins, Super Bowls won, MVP's won, and All Pro teams(not pro bowl) need to be taken into account too.

I agree that you can't solely use stats, but Elway's stats aren't as good as many of his peers. Why is that? I'm asking honestly because I didn't see many of them play.

I will disagree only on the team accolades. I don't think Dan Marino is bad because he never won a Super Bowl. After all, Tim Tebow won a playoff game.

Who thinks Dan Marino is bad? It's just a huge missing mark on his resume.

Otherwise, we might as well just copy the total touchdown leaders in NFL history and end the thread.

Why? Who said stats were the only indicator of success?

You said you disagree on team accolades. Besides stats, what else is there? I guess MVP's and All Pro teams aren't considered stats if you want to get technical.

The whole thing is opinion. There is no answer. Stats are big, and team accolades can be considered, though I don't find them to be as important without context on the team.

i am old enough to have seen elway through his prime along with marino and others of that era. having seen all of that, i cant understand for the life of my how anyone with eyes in their head can say that elway was better than a contemporary such as steve young, let alone some of these young arms these days. elway has a place in football history for sure, but top 5 QB? not even close.

If people want to argue that Manning and Brady are better than Elway that is acceptable, but please do not ever put Steve Young and Elway in the same sentence. Thank you.

Those of us who have been blessed to watch the NFL since the mid 1980s until the present have had the great privilege of seeing so many of the all time greats throw the ball. Montana, Elway, Marino, Favre, Manning, Brady

in their prime i would take young 10 times out of 10 over elway, and i wouldnt even hesitate. not slamming elway either, i admire the guy for a lengthy, productive hall of fame career and i love that the broncos have made him cornerstone of the franchise.

Drew Brees especially when you consider lack of size and arm strength

Brady is making a star out of Julian Edelman! A guy who probably wouldnt even make most teams!

Brady has won rings with lesser talent that Peyton has had. Not much, as yes, we know he had Moss, but Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison for a good chunk of Mannings career INSIDE is a nice start!

Still 1,2 in my book.

Neither has best arm, best legs, etc etc, but they play the position better than any 2 (including montana) ever have.

I think it's funny when I hear Brady won with lesser talent. It's as if you ignore the his superior offensive line and the defensive side of the ball. That said, I'm on board with you. I think we need to come to the realization these guys are 1 - 2.

Lesser Talent than Harrison, Wayne and Clark for solid 5 years.

Welker didnt have 100 catches in Miami

I don't take any list serious that excludes Elway. Any argument against him lacks any objectivity and should be mocked by every football fan.

Montana, Manning, Brady are an interchangeable 1-3 depending on your mood. I suspect that Montana will be #3 when Brady and Manning retire.

Then Elway, Young, Favre, Marino, Kelly.

All 5 better than Elway since I started watching football (85-86ish)

Elway would be 6 I guess. Favre, Elway, and Marino are pretty much the same level for me.
