Gorgeous and autumnal.
Perfect music for this weather.
Where are they playing in MKE?

^^I've decided I don't like this band very much.

Dude's voice, definitely. Liked a few tunes from the 2003 release. But it's all too much after a full album. Time Bomb's good. I had an ex who liked them quite a bit, so that probably has something to do with it too.

Better than The Weeknd's new release. Easily.

I'm going to try to make it there, but I'm not sure if I'll be in Chicago in December. I saw them the last time they toured, and they're actually pretty good live. They either stick to the melodic stuff from the albums or play the drones really damn loud, plus like so many ambient bands they project pretty pictures in the background.

Dream Theater's new self-titled release.

Best description I've seen is that it sounds like the album that Dream Theater would've made after Six Degrees if they hadn't gone in a heavier metal direction. Lighter and more "ballad-y" while retaining the crazy time signatures and virtuoso musicianship. No more cookie monster vocals or "Dark Master" lyrics. A couple songs giving an obvious Rush vibe. I'd give it an initial 7/10, but as with most DT albums, it may grow with repeated listens.

Oh man, a Stars of the Lid show? I might have to make that my one show of the year. Birthday present to self.

Zeph, do you like And Their Refinement of the Decline, too?

Yeah that's probably my favorite if I'm being honest. I remember how it came out at the same time as Eluvium's Copia and I thought all of my friends were weird for preferring that album in terms of ambient music in 2007. "The Daughters of Quiet Minds" is almost certainly my favorite song by them, with only "The Artificial Pine Arch Song" and "Requiem for Dying Mothers Part 2" in contention. I do love the latter since I saw them on their last tour and the bass absolutely made the roof shake, plus I love the interview where one of the guys pretended the Stalker samples at the end were from his own pet dog.

Was just listening to this:

And I still believe this is far and away the best Spiritualized album, with only Lazer Guided Melodies in contention. shirtless driver, I know you love "So Long You Pretty Thing," but I find it hard to argue against the one-two punch of "Spread Your Wings" and "Feel Like Goin Home" for an album closing.

Maybe the best record of 1977, and that's saying something:

1977 had Before and After Science, Low, "Heroes", My Aim Is True, Trans-Europe Express, Animals, Third Reich n' Roll, Aja, Talking Heads '77, and Marquee Moon before I can even think about fucking ELO and Billy Joel.

And I would probably say Low is the best, by the way, but it's a tight field.

Well, I'm probably going with Never Mind the Bollocks, but I'd put Marquee Moon, My Aim Is True, and the aforementioned Cabretta(Mink DeVille) in the conversation.

In my world, it gave us The Clash and Rocket to Russia, too.

For sure The Clash is on my short list. I really could do with just one Ramones record.

I have an odd fascination with The Ramones. I can't explain it, but it's just there...except for the Spector record...that thing is a piece of crap.

Marquee Moon was my #2 and would have been #1 except I feel like a few songs pale in comparison to the title track and "Elevation." But is that even fair?

Surprisingly I have never taken the time to listen to this album in its entirety. So far I like it very much.

I'm a long time Korn guy...was introduced to them live, seeing them open for KMFDM in 1995 for their self-titled. Met the band at the Metro in 1996 on their headlining tour (Limp Bizkit opened).

Anywho...this is their first album worth a shit since follow the leader.
It's pretty damn good if you were into that 7-string djent, before it was djent....

Head is back in the band. The lyrics border on sophomoric at times, but when they do the "Korn" thing, it doesn't get much better than the orig.

download it.
