When was Travis Wood ever a failed prospect? He was an average prospect and he has developed nicely. They rushed him in cinci a bit but once they backed off things started to progress for him.

He's had some success there and he's in a tough division but it feels like he has underachieved. I thought he would get fired last season. He's a good manager but he can't seem to win the big one. The Reds have WS talent.

Its not a Sox Cubs thing. He can't have it both ways. He can't tout the Wood deal as a great move by Theo, but then bash a team he doesn't like when the same kind of move-- picking up a guy off of the proverbial scrap heap-- works out for that team.

Who? UMN?

Are you talking about BigFan?

Does he ever not talk about me?

And for Don Teenie, I havent BASHED the Sox in quite some time. I take my jabs and side swipes, but havent taken the full outright bash in a real long time. Maybe Years. We have our own issues on the N side I am dealing with.

Can I make fun of the fact the most attended 3 games of the past 2 years are a Monday Night House Music Night, Elvis Night and 1/2 way to St Pats day. Sure, but is that bashing or repeating the news I heard on WSCR.

If you want to take me restating facts as bashing, go ahead

As for being "Hesitant" about Dusty.

All rumored managers had taken other jobs. The Cubs opening was sitting there and the speculation was that he was going to take it.

Normally, based on Dusty's past record, I dont think many would question it, but why does a team whose manager is taking them to the 7th game of the WS just letting the guy walk out the door? Its not like Dusty was from Chicago or the area? He played in LA, lived in LA, grew up in Sacramento. Outside of his years in ATL it was all Dodgers, SF and OAK.

So if the guy is so good, how does a team just let him walk away from a potential World Series Game 7? Yes, I did think he was not everything he was billed to be.

Now as the years have gone by, I think Dustys "style" probably plays well for a long season of baseball, when talented guys run the team and he sits back "Dude", but when it comes to crunch time, overall, his teams have not performed. So, there is the knock on the guy and someone in SF saw it way before we did in Chicago and let the guy walk. Simple.

But then again the guy who hired him heard all he needed from Milton Bradley at Gibsons one night and BOOM! and he signed the Bipolar RF to a 3 year 21$ mill deal?

Clarify Junk v prospect

Trading an asset like Sean Marshall (Premiere LH setup man) for Travis Wood is a deal the GM gets credit, or blame, for as there was value in Marshall, so it costs you something. That is one Theo & Co got right.

Signing Scott Feldman on a 1 year, getting him back into shape then trading him for cap space, is a good move, but its not because Theo &Co saw something special. They rolled the dice and it worked.

Signing Mat Gamel, Daniel Bard, fine go ahead , sign them all, but dont say there is no money left and when they work out, if they do, dont tell me you saw something.

Theo and Jed have said Pitching is a numbers game. They want to acquire as many pitchers as possible and see who works out. The equivalant of tossing the poop against the wall and see what sticks!

If you toss poop against the wall and see what sticks, isn't what sticks poop?

Dusty is a relic from a bygone era and a terrible game manager. The game has passed him by. His handling of the bullpen is terrible, his fascination with horrible OBP slappy hitters in the 2 hole are a few grievances people have with him. Get all of these old school managers out of the game.

IDK as I wasn't really watching him closely with Cubs. I know the main stuff but as a younger Sox fan was just happy he blew it. I was struck however in the recent week with the Pirates as I am here now. He was swept the last weekend by them. Then he rolls into Pittsburgh for the big game and spits the bit. Cuato did not have it and it was clear. Then the crowd gets on him, drops the ball and serves another gopher ball up. Still leaves him in. Then more further odd bullpen decisions as they get smoked.

Dusty strikes me as a guy with the "best seat in the house" manager. Let them play or whatever. I guess that is fine but he is not big time. Also, it is a bit too bad the race stuff comes out with him. I am sure any color manager gets mail of all kinds of sorts. Maybe Dusty is part of a generation that grew up in some of the tough race times and he can't let that crutch go?

Dusty was on the Braves the year Aaron broke the record. I'm sure he's been privy to serious, serious hate mail in his life, to say nothing of any he may have gotten himself. Still, the way he used race with the Cubs was really shitty.
