Just thinking about the Dodgers chances without Kemp


I understand you can make a case for Kershaw


But, Im trying to think of significant injuries on W.S. teams


Gibson was out for the most of the W.S. in 88 but obviously he was there

Kemp was bad the few games he was healthy this year. I'm not sure he is their best player anymore. Haven't they also benched Either because there are no spots in the OF?

He only had that single 39/40 season though and regressed last year with the power numbers (100 or so fewer ab's though)
I would not be shocked he were an HGH guy with his sudden rash of injuries.

Detroit might end up losing Cabrera if they make it that far, which would be a greater loss than Kemp is to the Dodgers.

Last season there were numerous articles calling him the best player in baseball

Even coming into this year.

He didnt regress. He played 106 games and had 23 homers.

Which works out to about 35 if he plays a whole year

He regressed a little this year, but he wasnt 100%

According to Craig Sager, all of South Korea is watching the Dodgers-Braves game right now, despite it being 9 am Monday in S. Korea.

You can't really be making this argument. He had 1 career year (it happens) but he has had a lot of mediocre seasons. I'd argue the monster year is the outlier.

Even so, it's not who's career numbers are better, it's who do you want right now. That might even be moot because Hanley has had a better career numbers-wise. And he's a lot better right now.

His OPS was .906 last year when he got hurt

He was great in 09, real good in 2010, Unreal in 2011, and great in 12 before he was hurt

Before this year, and when he's healthy, he was/is one of the best players in baseball

This year he was playing with a hurt shoulder. Im throwing this year out.


If healthy, he's better than everyone on that list but Kershaw

One monster year. Yes, I realize some of that is health related... but part of being a "franchise" player is staying on the field. I just think people overrate him because of the 40-40 thing (Canseco, Soriano, Kemp... all great shiny numerical seasons, but what's the demoninator here... flawed players in many respects), playing the "premier" position of CF (not very well, I might add) and dating starlets. Also the fact they basically took off after he went down doesn't score him any points either. Not a clubhouse leader, if you put stock in that kind of thing. It doesn't matter if we do anyway, I'm pretty sure Mattingly does.

Juan Uribe is the Forrest Gump of MLB

Uribe is an interesting player. His numbers aren't going to stand up well under statistical analysis. But he is the poster boy for "intangibles". There isn't a clubhouse in baseball where he isn't everyone's favorite guy. He can do a lot of things well enough on the field. And he seems to have a knack for stepping up at the right time. You're always going to try to replace him, but chances are the guy you replace him with isn't going to help you as much as he would. And he's just going to go someplace else and win another World Series. Probably on a team that brings him in as a utility player but where he ends up playing more than anyone thought he would. You keep trying to win with Gordon Beckham. Give me Juan Uribe.

He made the best defensive play in a World Series in the last 20 years and you never see it.

The other thing to remember about Uribe is that as a steroid era shortstop, his numbers didn't look real good. I mean, obviously he pales next to guys like Garciaparra, A-Rod, Ripken, Tejada, etc. But as we move into an era where guys like Simmons and Iglesias seem to be the prototypes, I think you could do a lot worse than penciling Juan in at short everyday.
