I didn't like the two year wait but this is really starting to get entertaining.

Every bad manager hire, like every loss, brings them closer to a championship.

I really don't care who they hire as field manager. This process has handled poorly which has been a disturbing trend organizationally for this supposedly superior group.

But this is like the tree falling in the forest. If Theo Epstein fucks up but no one admits he did, did he really make a mistake?

Mark this down as the point at which the tide turned for Theo and Cubs fans

Dolph,
A lot of excellent points you made here. I too, think this is where the tide turns. Watch Theo will suddenly find some FA money in the winter to get the heat off.

Hasn't turned for me at all. The focus through this season was obviously on bolstering the farm system. That's been done. The next step is to see advancements on the Major League level. I think we will start to see that in 2014.

Based on the lack of spending at the major league level, it's hard to dispute they weren't doing that intentionally. Without knowing exactly what the "plan" is, my gut says they are right about where they thought they would be.

Fair enough.

If the Cubs don't at least make the World Series under Theo though, you look to this time and say this is when the tide turned.

Let the Epstein crew show up at the Cubs convention. He will hear the tide rush in.

No offense, dude, but I doubt it would turn for you even if they lost all 162 next season. You're not very objective when it comes to Theo or Apple. I'm sure you can put a positive spin on the Pippin and the Lisa too.

but administratively, you cannot tell me that you are not troubled by the lack of sophistication they have displayed, which should call into question both their ability to devise and carry out a plan that ends in a world series championship

No, but I appreciate you asking please

LOL. You'd be surprised how objective I am when it comes to Apple, I think.

Re: Theo, I'm not of the mindset that Theo is definitely going to win a World Series. I think he is going to turn the organization around and get them competing. I think that process has started. I don't believe every move will be a success. I don't like the Edwin signing. That doesn't mean I don't think they are going in the right direction.

I understand that people don't like the strategy of tanking at the major league level. I think it will pay off in the long run. I might be wrong.

Joe says the Cubs never made an offer, and his people didn't even talk to the Cubs. I'm sure the Cubs had interest and reached out through back channels, but what did they do wrong? They clearly didn't put all their eggs in one basket. They have had a few managers in Chicago in the last two weeks to interview.

That's a nice story.

You are only allowed to use clearly if you are a lawer, like they clearly did put all their eggs in one basket and let everyone know that they were doing it with leaks that used words like "all in" and "they will beat any offer"

but there is more than just that

I'm still in the "In Theo We Trust" camp. A lot of the fuck ups occurring with the Cubs can be traced to dipshit Ricketts. Honestly, what have been Epstoyer's biggest mistakes been?

1. Jackson contract?
2. Castro/Rizzo contracts?
3. Sveum hiring?
4. Dempster trade?
5. Ian Stewart trade?

Sveum hiring was probably the worst decision. He possibly fucked up Castro/Rizzo or maybe it was the Cubs Way? Could be a combo of both but they're still young enough to be useful pieces. A lot of the Cubs issues can be traced to Ricketts being a dipshit or a cheap cash-poor asshole.

Weren't their rumors of Cubs business side (Crane/Ricketts) nudging Epstoyer to Girardi? Honestly, once I heard that then you knew the Cubs had zero chance.

NEXT!

Brad Ausmus looks like way too much a of a pretty boy to handle losing with young players, then getting grilled in the shitty locker room by Sulli!

Bosio, 1 year deal?

Maybe they can lure Sveum away from the Royals with a one year contract and a slight pay raise.

What about Dave McKay? I think he was Theo's clubhouse rat anyway.

Any half decent GM should get the Cubs "competing" with the resources the Cubs have. Saying Theo can do that doesn't mean anything.

I'm starting to get the impression that the great Theo, himself, is starting to realize he's going to fail. And he's going to fail bad!!!

They clearly did not, since they were interviewing guys long before Giraridi re-signed with the Yankees.

They clearly did, for appearance purposes, as I detailed in a post last week.

No idea what you are referring to. But you don't interview other candidates if your eggs are in one basket.

AJ Hinch, Manny Acta, a review of Sandy Alomar's prior interview and possibly Brad Ausmus make for bad baskets (edit) though.

Right?

Sure you do, so you don't look like you put all your eggs in one basket.

This is absurd. Sure it's possible that's what they were doing, but it's impossible to prove and much more unlikely than the alternative.

But I can see how pretending to believe that makes the Cubs look bad. Or should I say, pretending to believe that is a good way to troll cubs fans.
