He doesnt have the same arm but seemed to more decisive about where to throw it and when.

Better Brain? His reactions were more decisive but Cutler was having a good season before that terrible INT. today.

Cutler's numbers were very misleading. If you watched the games you know this.

I do know Cutler wasn't doing great but he was cutting down on the mistakes of the past and just looked like a better QB.

I'm more concerned about how flatly the Bears offense has played in the first half of all 3 of their losses this year, particularly in comparison to the second halves. I don't think this is entirely explainable in terms of Cutler in the first two losses or McCown today taking advantage of defenses playing more conservatively.

Is this the beginning of the end for Cutler?.....OR NOT?

I dont think the D was playing more conservatively, this was a close game throughout. This wasnt prevent D time and the qb throwing everything underneath taking advantage of it. He just flat out played pretty well.

Except on the sack that ended the game.

Yeah they had a pretty good shot at winning up until then.
Edit: Didn't Jay throw about a 10 yard pass from the opponents 40 instead of chucking into the end zone right before the half couple weeks ago?

Yeah, because in the NFL when a backup quarterback comes in the defenses always say "This guy can destroy us. We need to just hold on and limit the damage he does".

Right and I'm saying the offensive improvements in the second half against the Saints and the Lions also weren't purely a product of those defenses laying back more. My basic concern is why was the offense so inept across all three first halves yet actually looked competent after the break in each game.

Because Cutler was bad and padded his stats in those 2 games? Because McCown ran the offense today?

I find that explanation overly simplistic and think your distinction between "running the offense" and "padding stats" is based as much on your feelings about one of the players in question as it is on what transpired across the 3 games.

I think Cutler has been most K effective when hes been relegated to game manager mode. Make the simple decisions and easy low risk throws while taking care of the ball and letting the D give him a short field. Not exactly Brady/ Manning stuff.

No way can we say Trestman wasn't prepared. Sometimes the simple explanation is the right one.

Cutler was having a pretty good year. Not as good as his stats show, but still good.

His numbers were trending towards average.

He had some periods of brilliance but the bar is set so low for expectations that people act like he's a hero when he throws for 300 yards when many other QB's had a bad game if they did the same.

It was amazing watching the Bears not skip a beat on offense with a guy who had dropped out of the NFL completely before the Bears signed him to hold a clipboard. I'm not sure if it will continue but we have our first real evidence that the offense is stocked with talent.

How is that trending toward average? Seems he was trending upward.

Others were surpassing him. Even with those numbers, he was falling off the statistical leaderboards he was on earlier. With the injury, he will likely fall out of the top 10 of everything, but he was on his way to doing that anyways.
