It should have never gotten to this. If you were going to re-sign Cutler, it should have been done in April. No good comes of doing it when he hits the open market.

The belief that this team could win a championship in 2013 will prove a costly one. Skipping the opportunity to take one of the many great QB prospects in 2014 because you can sign Jay Cutler for more money than anyone else would be the height of folly.

Welcome, Irish Boy.

Now the question.....do you trust Emery to draft the right QB?

Emery has been kinda a "Find a late gem" GM not a top 3 rounds GM.
I wouldn't trust him to find a QB. Not a good one anyway.

I guess when you recycle employees as GMs, this is what you end up with.

I don't know about that. Who knew the defense would implode the way it has thus far? I still think they'd be in the mix with an average defense. But a bottom ranked defense like this one would undermine even the very best offensive minded teams.

Dude I think everyone saw this coming. The defense is old for the most part. The safeties have been bad for years. The games without good urlacher were pretty indicative of what this was to become.

Arguably they didn't have urlacher as we know him last year and they basically tied SF for second overall in points allowed. I don't dispute they were due for a decline, but at least I didn't expect the decline would be as steep and sudden as we're seeing now. This is like crashing and burning instead of a gradual decline.

Fair 'nuff.
I would argue that they've been in decline since mid season last year. Some big injuries exacerbated that this year.
I don't think that without injuries they're as bad as they have been the last couple games.

Franchise Cutler as he will be the stopgap until a top draft pick is brought in at QB to replace him. Bears are not going to the SB with Cutler. I'm over him. I believe Trestman wants a rookie QB to cultivate and to learn the offense without any pre-conceived ideas or physical ticks.

The defense will need to be rebuilt with FA's and some draft picks. Focus on the safeties, DE's and CB's. They're all old and/or just suck. The majority of the money needs to be spent here and not on some gimpy, shitty, underperforming journeyman QB like the one the Bears have now.

Cutler had such potential, but it was wasted here in his first two years under Lovie and fuckface Martz.

That's what I'm saying...

I gotta believe that Tresty being a QB guru & all will have a say in the draft & that Emery will listen to him & they will take advantage of the fact that this years QB draft class is the best in many many years, & draft at least 1 QB prospect. If they can get either Murray or Carr I hope they do. Both have the skills to be NFL QB studs.

So you don't think there was at least some luck involved in getting guys like Matt Schaub, Russel Wilson, and Andrew Luck?

I would venture to say there was a shit load of luck for a certain team to stumble upon Brady then not even play him until Bledsoe got hurt.

Of course there is luck. And when it works, its a great model for other teams to follow according to Rick.

Not really, but I don't trust him to do anything correctly. I'd still like him to be in the best possible position to prove me wrong though.
