What a loser. And like anything else, false claims hurt the real victims of ACTUAL bullying

I thought the winning coaches take was unique.

91-0 Texas football blowout leads to bullying charge from a concerned parent

Cameron Smith By Cameron Smith

Each week there are football blowouts across the nation. Rarely are they more one-sided than the 91-0 rout Aledo High (Aledo, Tex.) put on Western Hills High (Fort Worth, Tex.). Now, one parent has apparently been so concerned by the final scoreline that they took the extraordinary step of filing an official bullying report with the school district because of the thrashing.
As reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and other Dallas-area outlets, the official bullying report was filed by a Western Hills parent on Saturday, hours after the final whistle ended the most one-sided game so far this year in the Lone Star state. Texas regulations require Aledo's principal to launch a full investigation into the bullying allegation.

The administration is then to produce a written report addressing the bullying complaint.

If it was surprising that Aledo racked up 91 points on Friday, it was no shock that their win was a dominant one. The Bearcats are among the state's most powerful squads year-in, year-out. Friday's victory improved the team's record to 7-0, with Aledo now averaging a whopping 69 points per game. They've outscored their district foes by an incredible 77 points-per-game.

In the immediate aftermath of the most recent rout, both coaches agreed that there was no intention of the near 100-point gap in the scoreline. The two coaches spoke to the Star-Telegram about the blowout, and in a unique twist both expressed a sincere sense of regret about the way the game played out. In particular, Aledo coach Tim Buchanan spoke to multiple outlets asserting that his team's frequent blowouts have become a source of embarrassment for the program.

"I think the game was handled fine," [Western Hills coach John] Naylor said. "They're No. 1 for a reason, and I know coach Buchanan. We're fighting a real uphill battle right now.
"We just ran into a buzzsaw, you know," Naylor said. "[Aledo] just plays hard. And they’re good sports, and they don’t talk at all. They get after it, and that’s the way football is supposed to be played in Texas."

"I'm upset about [the bullying report]," controversial Aledo coach Tim Buchanan told the Star-Telegram. "I don't like it. I sit there the whole third and fourth quarter and try to think how I can keep us from scoring.

"I looked around [after Friday's victory] and asked, 'Is there anyone here that feels good?'"

I'm currently coaching girls soccer for my daughter's rec team. They are all eight year olds with the exception of one nine year old. We play in a U10 league against legit 10-11 year olds who have been playing together for 4-6 years. Over a seven game period, we have scored 3 goals. We lose by an average score of 12-0. If being outscored wasn't bad enough, we failed to generate a shot on goal in three of the seven games. As a group of coaches, there is only so much we can do. We can't teach size and speed. I worry each game that one of our kids will be injured. This all said, I continue to coach the kids that this is something they can only fix by improving themselves and not blaming the other team for running up the score or playing physically. I can't say that I don't occasionally fall back on blaming outside forces, but I realize that no one is trying to bully us. Bullying or not, we need to improve and stand up for ourselves or quit and try something else. I think the parent suing is missing out on a great chance for a life lesson. If one of these kids owns a company in the future and another company undercuts them on their product, do you sue them? No, you try to improve your product or move on to a new product. If these kids don't like getting killed at football, improve or don't play. Pretty simple.

I'm hoping the person who filed the report was just joking.

Is there a slaughter rule in H.S. sports? I thought there was one in boys baseball or maybe girls softball.

Out here at about 35-0 or I imagine any deficit with that spread they go to a running clock not stopping except at the quarters.

The coach is full of shit. You are up 35-0,you tell your team to get the ball up to beyond the 50 and run 3 times into the line, fall down and punt. It's not complicated even if you're from Texas.

Why? Because it's the nice thing to do?

Oh, so don't excel and try to get into a good college and get into the NFL because your competition is poor.
Sounds great!
I bet that if you run into poor businessmen in your line of work, you tell them not to pay higher prices that you might charge and go to your competition instead or offer to pay your vendors more for your materials so it's more nice to them.

Why the hell not? Why would business competition be so different from athletic competition?

You don't have your family & friends up in the stands booing & cheering while you are conducting business.

No. But don't they still cheer for you when you get a big client signed on or a huge sale or a big promotion or whatever?
Sure there's no audience, but the point remains.
These kids are competing for a job. That "job" is a scholarship (call this an internship) or a shot at the draft, but that's exactly what it is. They should play to the best of their ability at all times, no exception.

Bad thoughts right here. 91 is pretty hard to score, but we have won and lost by 50 plus points before and I didn't feel the score was run up at all. If backups are running wild there's not much else you can do. You don't tell a third string rb not to try.

Exactly. If you have your back up players in the game and they continue to score then so be it. Just how sports work.

Now if you leave your starters/first team in and keep your foot to the floorboard to get to 91 then you are a complete Dbag and deserve some negative consequences.

out here in my neck of the woods our high school team struggles through losing seasons year after year, and went winless last year. frequently the entire second half is a running clock. 2 weeks ago they were down 42-0 midway through the second quarter and the other team was running roughshod over them. the other team cleared its bench and the running clock ran and i think they scored maybe 2 more touchdowns after that. once the running clock starts the game flies along so quickly i cant see how it would be possible to score 91 points, at least under IHSA rules.

There was a high school game up here a few weeks back between Oconomowoc and Wisconsin Lutheran, the final score was 84-82, in regulation.

Where in the original story does it say "backups"? I don't see it.

i applaud the western hills coach for his reaction after the game. whether the other team pulled its starters or not is irrelevant, he didnt hide behind any excuses. if you take the field against a top-ranked team you better be mentally and physically ready to get abused. western hills has been getting pounded all year, they have given up 60+ in four games.

Come on Jimmy. The coach says he was looking for ways to keep from scoring the 3rd and 4th quarters, do you think he did that while keeping his starters in the entire time?

after reading that link i posted above, i have no problems whatsoever with how the winning team handled things. they werent throwing the ball. they returned a couple punts for TD's. they rushed for 8 touchdowns. somewhere along the line someone has to tackle somebody.
