Here are two things that should be enforced :

1. Each batter is allowed one time out only to step out per AB

2. Each pitcher has no more then 20 seconds between pitches to deliver a pitch, other wise it's an automatically called a ball.

Get drastic.

Split the season into 2 mini-seasons. Make after the All-Star break it's own season. Seed the playoffs based on overall record with teams getting a bye through the first round if they are best overall but giving the teams that are out of it in July a chance to compete in the 2nd half and still make the playoffs.

No more wildcards. The division winners from each season qualify. If a team wins both mini-seasons, the next best qualifier gets the lesser playoff spot. Something like that. I just made it up so, yes, I'm sure it has holes.

Or how about the team that gone longest without winning a pennant get invited to the playoffs. Like a Cinderella story. You know, something for the kids (and Cub fans)

Can't blame baseball. It's like trying to market televised cricket.

People used to be entertained by kicking a can around a yard too. Life gets better and things like kicking a can, Smallpox, and baseball become far less important in society. It's pretty impressive that anyone cares about baseball at all.

This, though I wouldn't be opposed to a 154 game season.

I think they could cut it to 144 at this point. I used to be against it because of the season records but those are all meaningless now. And hardly anybody wins 20 games anymore so there's no need.

It will never happen though. Not going to give up 9 home games.

Two "mini-seasons" is stupid idea . . . although it is being done in the minors.

Why stop at two seasons? Let's have a season every month

I like RPB's ideas.

add about 6 DH's to each teams schedule. If the players union doesn't like it,shut it down for a season. Let's see how they like that!

The season needs to end much sooner!!

If Baseball could somehow force ESPN to hype it more, that would be a cureall

Seems like our society is more ADD-centric than ever before and getting worse. That just doesn't jive with baseball. I'm not really sure there's anything you can do about it as it seems to be affecting people of all ages. When even a guy like JORR says he can barely go a few minutes without pulling out his phone and fucking with it, then all hope is lost.

See, ESPN used to be a great partner for baseball. ESPN built a lot of its empire on its baseball coverage (and hockey, which they've discarded even more than baseball).

I enjoy ESPN's baseball coverage so much more than Fox....And I generally hate ESPN coverage of sports.

I think you are putting the blame on the wrong group. Entertainment is supposed to be exciting. Other sports have made themselves more exciting while baseball has actually gotten less exciting with slower games and strategies that may be effective but are pretty tough to watch unless you have a major rooting interest.

ESPN owns ABC. Put Monday Night Baseball on ABC. You can not put on dancing with the stars for one night. Although Dancing with the Stars probably gets better ratings than the World Series.

ABC Monday Night Baseball used to be a thing. Howard Cosell and Bob Uecker did the games.

I think ADD works in the favor of baseball. Prime phone fiddling time between every pitch. Time to rub one out during pitching changes. Turn on something more interesting between innings.

The point is that it's been done - in the minors - and there is/was a ton of dissatisfaction over the impact it has on momentum, the fans, the players, the teams etc.

Make the season 1/3 of its current games with 1/2 the teams qualifying but the top 3 seeds in each league qualifying. Then make series 21 games each until the finals, which is 14-game series.

And all batters must grease their hands before batting. It's always more fun when you get the crowd involved.

Make steroids mandatory and allow the players to smash into each other at any time.

One good thing to think about is that this is McCarver's last season. Does anyone know who will be replacing him?

Yes, all the people are not watching because of Tim McCarver.

Didn't say that but it would be nice to have a competent analyst working the World Series, especially when this analyst has been working the World Series for 2 decades.

I found the NBA absolutely unwatchable when ABC was using a team of Brad Nessler, Bill Walton and Tom Tolbert. I don't think the broadcast team is the be-all end-all but I do think it's important.

I tend to fall into this camp. But then again, I love baseball at virtually every level. I'd love to see less baseball managed by the sabremetrics guys so we'd get fewer "one batter" pitchers and less visits to the mound and less Buck/McCarver et al.. Ultimately I'm perfectly comfortable in my niche status as a tv baseball fan.

This is going to sound offensive to some around here, but by the time the (really good) NCAA games are over, I can only watch one and maybe parts of two other NFL games. Some weekends I watch considerably less than that.

Imo, college football has been considerably more interesting for the last 5-10-15 years than the NFL. Not only are the college games (of the week) filled with wildly contrasting styles, they have nearly as much speed and much more interesting storylines than say 13-15 of the weekly NFL games. Unless the Saints or Bears are playing on Thurs/Sun/Monday nights, I rarely watch more than 10-15 minutes of those games.

At least eight NFL teams need to be eliminated, the talent pool just isn't that deep. It's increasingly a duller watch.
