I don't understand this 154-game crap. "162 games over six months is simply too much! They need to get rid of...eight of them! This five-percent reduction in the schedule is the difference between me caring and not caring." I mean, if you said baseball should only play 16 games a year to be like Sweet Beloved Football, that would be just as stupid, but if you're going to be wrong, be wrong with conviction.

An 8 game reduction is negligible. If you're going to actually make it a shorter season there must be at least a 20-30 game reduction. This would ensure that the season would end while the weather is still warm and perhaps it would reduce the possibility of baseball fans becoming burned out over a long season.

The day-in-day-out grind of the game is part of the appeal to me. Maybe we're not supposed to care about every single game every single year. I blame part of this culture change on the veritable bleach-and-ammonia combo that is the 24-hour sports media cycle and college football, where one loss immolates your entire program and your entire university and all in this world has been rendered meaningless for all eternity because you lost one game and it all has to be dwelt upon into infinity. You shouldn't have to feel like so much is always at stake, but when tickets cost what they do and players cost what they do and everything has been ratcheted up like this, it's inevitable. It's not a healthy outlook on sports and it's not a healthy outlook on life.

Now if you don't mind, I have to voice some serious complaints with the Blackhawks' #3 defense pairing after ten games!

Make it 154 and have two mandatory doubleheaders, you're basically talking two weeks. To do that I'd relax roster rules/sizes for pitchers. Chop off two weeks off the end, and you have playoff games played in baseball weather and possibly with even healthier pitching. I'd posit that that would be quite a bit more than "negligble".

Yes, this basically waves the white flag in favor of the NFL, but that (tv) fight's over. And I don't care.

I like it. Maybe rosters can have 15 position guys & 12 pitchers but only 10 pitchers at game time. Kind of like the other 3 major sports.

The people in Baton Rouge, Tallahassee & Tuscaloosa would disagree with you

But more to your point, that's actually a large part of why I love college football, and not particularly one team. I love the pregame frenzy...and the inevitable public march toward sweet death by Saturday night for at least 1-2 "contenders" each week.

And despite all that, the frenzy, perhaps a little muted is back for the (formerly) vanquished the next week.

I know we're all just playing God here, but the whole "shorten the schedule" tack is a total non-starter when you consider how many RSNs rely on baseball for programming hours. I mean, those local TV deals are what baseball is all about these days. NESN and YES are doing just fine selling 162 games minus national telecasts. What interest could they possibly have in cutting back? Contractually speaking, how could they?

Baseball needs more violence. Maybe if a batter gets hit by a pitch, he gets one whack @ the pitcher w/ his bat.

The only way baseball can truly be saved is by accepting Jesus Christ as it's Lord & Savior.

Haven't watched one inning. Mostly because I want both teams to lose.

I've watched more baseball in the last 72 hours than I have all season. This is pretty great.
