I suppose this all boils down to personal standards. I've not had the chance to review every single company's employee handbook, but I can tell you my company will absolutely fire someone if they smell like liquor or are seen having a beer during work hours. Yes, it's in the handbook.

Beyond all of that, though, there comes a point where you have to take personal responsibility for how you want to spend your work day. If drinking a beer at work is acceptable for you, then that's your prerogative. Good luck.

I would be remiss to not point out that I'm posting on a message board during work hours, too. I'm sure that is also frowned upon, and not just by you people reading my filth. :)

I mean if republican members of the House can do it (on Saturday during the CR debate), then have members of the caucus admit on Sunday that when the Senate sends them a clean CR on Monday that they won't know what to do with it (because "they hadn't discussed the possibility"), why not the rest of us.

Right?

I thought that was you. You were going on and on to some stranger about the Baking Bread finale. I assumed you were part of a sourdough chain.

When I was an apprentice, it was the "Age Of Lunch Drinking". You couldn't go into a bar or restaurant downtown and not see all of the trades and office folk drinking their lunch. It was "the norm". Not so much now.

When an apprentice would finally get his "J" card, he'd throw a party, to reimburse all of his journeymen for buying drinks at all the lunches throughout the years of apprenticeship. It was a fun time, but I'd be way too paranoid to do it now, even though I can easily "handle" having a few at lunch...

When I worked for brokerage firms it was fairly common.
In fact almost every Friday we would have Adult Slurpies. There was a little shop round corner that had slushies then we took them to the bar next door for doctoring. I always had a large coke with 2 shots of Jack.
My exit interview was my boss taking me to the same bar asked me how long I was there, I said 5 years. He ordered me 5 shots of jack with a bud back. After that he tried talking me into not going.

Is that sound I just heard the sound of Frank smashing his fist into the keyboard in a rage after seeing that picture?

Nope. In the former offices of the Baltimore Colts. Bob Irsay might have sat right in my spot.

They probably stripped it all when they left for Indy in the night.

That picture looks like it was taken in 1998. I haven't seen a phone with a cord in years. Why are you wearing a winter hat and coat inside?
I'll be honest... that looks like a shady operation. Can I place a bet with you?

I was a lot skinnier in 1998.

And whats with the low end screw together particle board Sauder desk? Also, that isn't an office. Its a small dive apartment with low end berber carpeting.

I don't run my company with Veblen goods. We work econo. I don't have an office, though I certainly could. I belong right on the floor with my guys. Maybe your office looks like the palace at Versailles. If so, I feel bad for your company's investors.

That corner you have painted yourself into has become increasingly smaller over time.

When you start your own company, assume ALL of the risk and are then able to command the salary you claim to currently receive, then come back and make a comment about where others work.

Until then, you are just a clanging cymbal.

All this time, I thought it was spelled "burbur carpeting." Apparently I have lived my life in an ornate cage of opulence and privilege.
