McNeil was also out earlier this year when the station added video streaming of the show to its website. After winning concessions from management, McNeil returned following a short absence.

Did I miss this story? Mac got some coin from the video feed?

Depression sounds like something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, because if a day time sports talker feels worse than I do about themselves...well that's a dangerous place to be. Best wishes to Mac in this trying time.

No comment Sid? :P

This last year has had to be really hard for him. I wish him and family strength.

It would make sense. Mac signed on to do a radio show, not a radio/streaming simulcast. Bernstein held out from blogging for a while until being named "senior columnist" and presumably getting paid extra for it.

Depressed, so you want to sit around in a basement in bumblefuck Indiana all day and not drive your sponsor-provided $60K SUV into a cushy job in the City 4 hours a day for on average 3 days a week? Hmmm.

Clearly depression is serious business.

We need someone to replace IMU's point of view when it comes to depression.

2 things that I have never understood were depression & stress. I'm lucky to be a person who is a glass half full optimist & depression & bad days are few & far between for me. Who knows what causes depression...but didn't Macs birth Mother commit suicide when he was a youth?

Depression isn't pessimism or bad days, but I'm glad you haven't had to reckon with it.

Which part? I don't understand depression. I feel for those that suffer from it. It must be horrible.
I would imagine that losing a parent to suicide could lead to long term mental issues.

If you read this in the dad from American Dad's voice, it comes off as funny instead of astoundingly obtuse and insensitive.

NOW DO YOU SHITHEADS AND ASSHOLES SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE IS ASKED TO ROLL OUT OF BED FOR UNDER 300K?!?!

jesus christ, seriously, fuck all of you insensitive assholes.... you mac haters know who you are, and you're prolly reveling in this as you want nothing more than to see chicago's very own barney rubble wallow in endless self-hatred thanks to your ad nauseum hate train to desolationville.

being asked to roll out of bed for under $300k = a devastating slice of reality for someone who's being forced to contemplate such a hellish reality.... so not only does he have to deal with that soul-crushing thing, but then he gets gloopan kuratz and the can't-get-a-long-gang showing up and rubbing his face in it?

for shame, CSFMB.... dan's been through a lot, he's consistently delivered the goods wherever he goes, and his thanks is being asked to roll out of bed for under 300k? that's not even a living wage for christ's sakes..... so stop making fun and start making kickstarters to contribute into the "re-sign dan mcneil fund" over @ the score because if we don't, shoot, we might end up having larry/speagol on from 9-1 every day because there's a part of me, even without reading this story, that had a gut feeling that the station has been tinkering with larry/speagol as a potential replacement for dan should he walk at any point, and i forget when his contract is up.... but isn't it soon?

if he's on the virge of potentially/not resigning, well, where's beardown when you need him?

----

the above post was sarcastic, obviously. indeed if there's problems going on in mackeyland i hope that everyone/dan knows that i wish him nothing but the best. get well soon, brother!

btw, my gut tells me that 'depression' is a nice classy way of saying that he probably had some sort of a problem with alcoholism or something else.... we know there's a history there, and we know that he mentions o'douls a bunch.... so if the guy's drinking non-alcoholic beer that right there is a red flag to me because it says the guy wants to drink beer because it's obviously so ingrained/hardwired in his day to day consciousness that he can't completely seperate himself from the ritual of drinking alcohol, so he's gotta have pretend alcohol to allow him to simulate drinking without any of the consequences that might come with drinking... otherwise it'd be akin to a recovering nympho saying "yeah i masturbate a lot but don't worry i'm not gonna fuck anybody"

so whatever the case, indeed, hopefully it works out for dan cuz deep down i think he's a good guy who nobody outside of his anti-ALS wishes ill upon.

edit: reading the article it mentions that "there is no guarantee that he will return to the air" --- so yeah, something seems fishy to me... i wonder if it's the end of his contract and perhaps negotiations weren't going too good and perhaps the realization that the great long gravy train run of the last ~20 years is coming to an end has him depressed? it's like hussra or whoever said up there when breaking down some of the details of his life.... he's got it good, and methinks like anything it's easy to take things for granted when they're omnipresent in your life for a long time..... so maybe he's a bit emotional at the end of an era?

at least i'm convinced that one way or another dan has made enough friends over the years to land on his feet somewhere somehow and that his family won't be using foodstamps in the next 5-10 years even if dan never works another day as a daily radio host again. he's enough of a people person to ensure he'll be able to get a nice cushy gig somewhere, but yeah, i dont think the mcneils are going to be eating ramen twice a day in 2018 because the radio gig ended in 2013... call it a hunch.

and also call it a hunch that if mac's gone for awhile or even gone for good, laurence/speagol is the direction they'll go, and in fairness i think that's the right call cuz i think holmes/speagol is a good solid listen that has a chance to develop into a quality show going forward (especially if laurence is in his primetime show toned down mode as opposed to full-on wednesday night bingo)

ALSO, PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THIS POST WHEN IT'S TIME FOR THE END OF THE YEAR AWARDS.......

oh wait, KS did those, right? or was it panther? well if we didn't lose the guy/s who do the end of the year awards, this has to be in the running for post of the year. the tiiming of it was just so apropos, not to mention it was the first reply to this thread, so it effectively pulled a </thread> right out of the chute, which is a sign of posting excellence on a bbs. well played, juiced, well played indeed.

Thanks Sin, I have only to thank my inspiraton Dr.Kennith for his leadership and professionism. (Not sure if that is a word or not. But it should be if it's not and, if it is then that just proves my point, that it should be.)

Time for Mac to quit the radio gig and buy a charter fishing boat or something. Can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results.
