3rd time in NFL history? Marvin Lewis didn't even have the heart to finish arguing over whether or not it was safety in the post-game presser.

Lewis's questionable coaching cost the Bengals the Bears game earlier this season. And tonight, right before the go ahead FG near the end of regulation, why did Lewis have Dalton--with 3 picks already--throw down-field into double coverage and stop the clock on the inevitable incompletion...could've stayed on the ground and used up more clock/made Miami burn their last TO. Or, if you wanna convert the 3rd and 4, at least try a low risk play that'll get the 1st down without risking another pick.

Geno Atkins might be out with an ACL.

I'm starting to enjoy Thursday Night Football. I think it took some time to get used to. It probably just replaces Monday Night football to me. I'm normally too burnt out by Monday on football unless it's the Bears or Saints.

Not tuned into the Cincy sports scene, but they still are something like 6-4 or 6-3 and on top of the division. Bad loss but certainly not devastating in the big picture.

Can we also get over the complaints whenever someone gets injured on Thursday night that it somehow is a result of a shortened week? I didn't know Geno Atkins ACL needed 6 days of recovery or it rips itself apart.

I don't know about Atkins, but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence coming from the players themselves suggesting that the short week makes them more vulnerable during the game.

It's the opposite of a touchdown. The entire ball has to be out of the end zone.

I don't think he's considered a good coach at all, it's just that the creepy family ownership loves him and Lewis has no self-worth/knows he wouldn't be a head coach anywhere else. It's sort of like the old nice-guy-works-cheap dynamic that Lovie and the McCaskeys had, except instead of losing a Super Bowl and demanding a raise, everything just stayed at "pretty good team in 2005" forever.

I'm not so sure I'm on board with the Lewis sucks or is a mediocre coach line of thinking. The Bengals were perpetual losers before Lewis took over and made that team, led by a pre-injury Palmer, Johnson, Dillion, into an up and coming squad on the verge of contending for several years. Under Lewis in the mid-2000s there were probably what the Saints were considered to be around the time they lost to the Bears in the NFC championship game. Now they've remade the team once more under a new core, led by Dalton, Green, Bernard, etc., that's currently leading the division and on schedule to make the playoffs for a second year in a row. I think it's a good body of work.

In the mid-2000s they missed the playoffs five times in his first six years. They've never won a playoff game. His record is either .500 or close to it. Mediocre is just right. And the 2006 Saints were going to win the Super Bowl and rebuild New Orleans, remember? No one ever thought the Bengals would even crack the Patriots/Colts/Steelers rotation.

They have been to the playoffs under the new core for two consecutive years, and will most likely make that three years in a row once the season ends. 2006 was a stepping stone year for the Saints, and I do recall much public support for their chances, but they were still a piece or two away if I remember correctly.

I don't know if we remember the Bengals the same way in the mid-2000s; in 2005 for instance they went 11-5 with a stud QB and WR, both of whom were very young, and I seem to remember the arrow pointing up after the lost to the eventual champion Steelers in the first round.

I remember someone fucked up Carson Palmer's knee in that game and the thought was "so much for that." Though then again that may have just been what the Grobber said.
