I have. There's usually a guy like you.
A guy who thinks he is funny but everyone secretly hates?

Oh, that's me here.

Are pranks bad? What is acceptable? What is crossing the line? I'm not sure if it is just the usual Steve stuff or if most of you are against them in general.

I would be against powder all over my or somebody else's room and against somebody putting food into my bowling ball.

I've gotten people with the exploding golf ball before. I think that is a harmless prank.

cheez whiz in your ball holes...that's a dick move, but overall pretty harmless unless it fucks up the flow or dude gets super pissed.
Scares are fine...fake lotto tickets, April Fools.

But, just being a mean fuckstick for your own humor? You're just an neck stepping assbag.

I realize that. I also assumed the bowler would thoroughly clean out the holes before his next turn.

With what? I don't bring cleaning supplies to the bowling alley.

You are so full of crap.

No, I just evacuated. I'm good.

I don't know many good bowlers that don't carry a bottle of alcohol or ball cleaner and a rag in their bag. That's what he used and it took but a few minutes.

Many bowlers do, but I don't. My buddy runs the pro shop, so if I need something, I see him.

Did he make a big fuss over it? Yes, and that made it even funnier to everyone.

My three year old would probably find it funny, but an adult would be pissed at that. You are really lucky you didn't get your jaw broken, if this really happened. I don't know anybody who goes bowling looking to be hazed purely for the entertainment of an immature, racist, ex-cop on a power trip.

If you would like to wager on whether it happened, I will bet any amount of money you wish on it and you can ask the guy who had the cheese in his ball himself and the rest of the league to verify the story.

I will bet you 50 million billion dollars.

You don't bring cleaning supplies.....who ya crappin? I'll bet there is a spray bottle of ball cleaner and a rag in your bag without question.

Like I said, I will go to the pro shop if I need rubbing alcohol to clean the oil buildup that accumulates on the ball. Not to clean cheez whiz out of the finger holes. I bowl with adults, not children.

And how do you clean cheez whiz out of a bowling ball's finger hole, with a rag and alcohol? You would need some type of brush, to get down there, and remove it all. I suppose you keep that shit in your bag for just such an occasion.

I'm proud of you for showing the ability to respond to others without mentioning my name. Now, if only Chas could learn to do that.

Let me see if I got this right.
Steve comes on here to claim that hazing is wrong.
Then he goes on to describe the hazing he has done in his recent past... But its ok because everyone thought it was funny, everyone except the person being pranked...
Then he told a black guy to get off the porch.
Then he made a short bus joke, which always comes off as appropriate.
Then he takes some shots at the ladies of csfmb.
But none of that is bullying... Which he said is bad, which isn't at all hypocritical.

The lesson here is that Steve is a shallow sack of crap that truly hates not being accepted, and severely lacks the self awareness to accept that fact.

I know we have some pretty damn good bowlers on this board. Guys with 190-210 averages if I remember correctly. That's not easy!

I bought a Storm Marvel-S. Good ball? I just thought it looked cool and my daughter liked that it smelled like spearmint.

That is one of the six that I am currently considering:

Columbia Antics
Track 912T
Motiv Primal Rage
DV8 Endless Nightmare
Storm Sync
Storm Marvel S

I'm switching to a 15 pound ball this time. Lighter ball means more speed, and more revolutions.

Marvel-S is a very good ball. You may find that it hooks a lot as oil starts to break down...meaning as you just go and bowl with your daughter, you may struggle to score with it. It's a lot of ball, but it's very highly rated on bowlingball.com.

I'm a big fan of the Storm products...have been for a long time. Got my wife throwing them too. Got one called the Sync back in early summer and threw a 289-299 back to back games in my summer league. Averaging about 190 with it currently.

Like I said, feel free to ask any questions you want. Also, use the videos on YouTube to your advantage. Especially search out the ball you have, and go from there.

I love my Sync. The pins just explode with that ball, and if you miss a little, you can get away with a good carry. I'm looking at getting a HyRoad Pearl for when lanes start breaking down at Poplar.

I asked my guy in the pro shop which ball would be good for me. Those were the six he listed. It's time for a new ball. When I bought my current ball 7 years ago, the lanes at our house were dryer. I picked a ball that would roll longer, and snap on the back end. The patterns are oilier these days, so I want something with some punch, that I can really crank if need be.

I've noticed that for awhile now as well. Even thought about that when he made the porch remark.

But in his mind he's a victim. Always the victim.

Hiding behind a claim of "they're just pranks"

Now, back to you guys talking about bowling setups. This amuses me to no end. Perhaps because I bowl like shit.

About how many games does it take for the oil pattern to break down?

It depends. If you have 8 or 9 right handed bowlers (I am right handed) throwing the same shot, you can be moving your feet a couple boards in the first game. One team in our league has four lefties. The lanes stay pretty much the same throughout the night.

Can you always tell right away?

As soon as the ball snaps more than the last shot, they are breaking down, and you need to adjust.

And by crank, I meant jerk off. I usually jerk off on my teammates' towels. Nothing like some harmless hazing. But, I have never engaged in any hazing.

It really depends on how heavy the oil the house puts down. You will be able to tell when you are hitting your mark and the ball is coming right through the head pin. That is when it's time to start adjusting your line and/or mark to find the pocket. The type of ball comes in to play as well. A ball that is shiny is not going to hook in oil where a dull ball will. A shiny ball will work better on dry lanes.

I never suggest putting the ball in the polishing machine. Those things should be destroyed.

The Sync is selling for like 99 bucks on Bowlingball.com...I think.

Do you have any tips on staying behind the ball - or do I just have to wait until my wrist adjusts to handling the weight of the ball?

You have to lock your wrist, so your hand has to stay behind the ball. Try to keep your thumb pointing at the pins.

I have a positioner, bit I still find myself occasionally rolling over the top and having teheh ball fall out early.

Just like anything else, practice makes perfect. If you come around the ball, it will definitely be flat, and not finish.

Also, is your first step with left or right?

I think I am stuck with a first step left, even though I know you're supposed to start with the right - it just doesn't feel proper to me.

It depends on what works for you. I use the traditional four step approach. Start with the right, and finish by sliding on my left. Some guys use the three step approach, where the left foot plants, instead of a slide. It doesn't feel right to me.

What is your look sequence like? I mean, you said you KNOW when you are hitting your mark - are you watching the arrows through release and then following the ball. Do you ever find yourself not looking at your mark?

My eyes are always on the arrows.
