Something tells me the even when Ungotz turns 14, he'll still be obsessed with bodily functions.

I think Nas is man enough to defend himself.......... probably can't say the same for you.
Why don't you go back to where you came from and crawl back under Charlie Weiss' FUPA.

Seriouisly just about anyone could have QB'd that team into the SB. Cmon Nas, search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Was the int he threw last night his fault or did the defense make a good play? From what you guys are writing he is the same qb. He's not learning or developing and that's not what I want to hear.

I have a bad feeling about this season and my disdain for Rex has been building for 6 months.

If thats all you simply want, then your wishes for this season might be fullfilled. They might get their again this year given the current condition of the NFC. They could even keep it going and become a dynasty like the 90's Bills....

On second thought, you're right, that was too hurried of an analogy. Those Bills teams would have been licking their chops to play an NFC team like the Bears this year

I'm an Illini, dipshit. My moniker refers to my ethnicity, not my collegiate affiliations, hence the generic leprechaun. My "location" makes that pretty clear- I guess they didn't cover geography in 6th grade.

Remember that at the end of the year, the defense was playing some pretty average football.

It damn near happened when Orton was starting. Maybe it didn't because Rex WAS running the show by the end of the previous season. He won ten games, was it really HIM winning those games or was the defense just awesome?

I think the entire offense is suspect. Mostly 2nd and 3rd receivers, an UNPROVEN starting RB, and Fumbleiscious Rex. This is going to be a tough offensive year.
Nas, seriously, what makes Rex better than Jim Miller? Not much really.

Hester and the Defense helped alot with that scoring ppg

The last couple sentences was basically the premise of Tony's intro to last nights game, I disagree

Rex DID QB the team the year before in the playoffs. He didnt play terrible but he didnt play great either. I understand he was very inexperienced but its not as if he didnt play at all, then played the next year and they won in the playoffs. I believe he is 2-2 in his brief playoff career.

Its been said multiple times on this board and everywhere, but its true, the window with this team is short. I dont believe it is very short or closing this year, but they Urlacher, Brown, etc. arent getting any younger and they have a top 2 or 3 defense this year. The last guy they need at QB is a freewheelin gunslinger that throws alot of ints AND alot of TDs. They need someone to control the offense and not make stupid plays. Trent Dilfer played the part of this beautifully in 2000. While this defense is not quite as good as that defense, they are very very good and I believe could win the Super Bowl with a similar blueprint if they had the right guy under center

Nas, even with a 31st ranked offense, they were in the playoffs.

This is what I mean when I say that they were a playoff team with or without REX. They got there with Orton, (Rex played one, two games? I forget).
Just like last year, They were there dispite Rex.
they never should have won the Arizona game, and maybe a few others like it.

Last year the Bears offense was ranked 15th overall and 2nd in scoring. Grossman was 7th in the league in touchdowns. Unless points don't count anymore Grossman's contributions to the team were huge. I can remember several games from last year that would have been lost with a conservative approach at quarterback. It's a fact the defense was fresher at the end of the year even with the injuries because the didn't spend a lot of time of the field thanks to the offense. If you don't think that means anything you are mistaken.

the gap in between 15th overall and 2nd in scoring tells you it was the defense and Hester. Basically the offense was average(being 15th out of 32). congratulations

You can name SEVERAL games from last year? I implore you to name 4 or more games the Bears won that they would have lost with a conservative QB.

Your argument with the Defense being fresh at the end of the year is actually the mistaken argument because like irish boy said, they were in fact pretty average near the end of last season, much of that due to Brown and Tommie being out in my opinion

unless you consider Steve Mcnair a "star" at this stage of his career, that is a false statement. The Ravens were 13-3 last season

I don't think many people would have a problem with Rex if he can just get that center exchange down. INT's and actual fumbles are part of the game and should not be looked at as Rex's fault all of the time. The INT last night was partly the receivers fault for not fighting for the ball. I think he did have a Trent Dilfer like performance last night and then some. As long as he checks down to his safety options and not try to force the ball in there all the time he will be fine. Nobody is talking about the long pass to Berrian that he made on the run. Pretty impressive IMO. He was 9 for 11 last night and one of those was a pick. He will be fine as long as he doesn't try for a TD on every play and controls the offense. With that being said I do think he is going to have to make more plays because IMO Cedric should have been traded and not Jones.

I love the Bears.....don't get me wrong.......but even though thay have been a playoff team as of late, they play in the weakest division in the NFL. Minnesotta, Detroit, and Green Bay have sucked as hard as Irish Boy's mom has to when his tuition is due.
Making the playoffs is not that big a deal. They are winning because of defense, special teams (kicking game too, not just return yards), and the amount of turnovers that the defense gets. Watch the first quarter of last nights game....if it was the regular season, the Colts would've won by over 10 points. The Bears are not an elite team...... that being said...the defense is good enough to win it all....they just need a leader at QB. Not a deer in the headlights type that makes excuses. (sweaty hands)

He was the only new player on an offense that was 31 in scoring and 29th overall. What about that are you missing? They jumped 14 slots overall and 29 slots in scoring. Rex had 23 touchdowns. The defense was injury free in 2005 and scored more points that season than they did last year. Also having a huge lead allows them to attack and take more chances. You don't have as many interceptions when the other offense is running the ball because they have a lead.

Im not missing anything, Rex threw alot of TDs and alot of INTs. I get that. He put alot of points on the board, as well as alot of points on the board for the other team, I get that too. Your last sentence I AM missing something, becuase to me it makes no sense at all. What does the other offense have to do with Rex throwing QBs. I dont see a correlation there. Also having a huge lead allows them to attack more? Maybe, but most teams generally run the ball and play it safe with a huge lead unless they are either rubbing it in for some reason or they are named Mike Martz.

Overall Im a little stunned that a fan as knowledgable as you seem to be Nas, you think Rex is a good fit for this team and you think he will be fine this year. It is possible you are right, but for all the evidence you have to support it, I see a ton of evidence to rebut it. They need a Trent Dilfer, not a Rex Grossman, under center.

Several reasons -- when Rex played well, he played very well. The defense was good enough, the division was weak enough.

Keep in mind, last preseason sucked for Rex. An switch seemed to be turned on when the season started. That winds all of us up...

Nas,
Those statistics are a little skewed because of the fact that Rex dominated for the first 6 games. He wasn't the same player after the 6th game. He could do no wrong in the first 6 games, but those are over and done with.

The Bears may have been 15th in the league in offense, but since they were number 1 for the first 6 games(more than a third of the season), then the last 10 games had to bring that down really fast.

Rex was average to above average in the Seattle and New Orleans games in the playoffs, but was bad in the Super Bowl. His turnover in the 4th quarter effectively ended the game.

1 out of every 3 games that Rex played last year was bad(some really bad). 1 out of every 3 games that Rex played last year was average.
1 out of every 3 games that Rex played last year was amazing.

That is how you end up the 15th ranked offense.
