Jesus, that looks like my backyard.

Anyway, I went bowling a couple months ago with my brother and there are a couple teeny jerkos on the next lane. I'm rolling my eyes because I know they're going to fuck etiquette and just throw the fuckin ball whenever they damn well feel like it.

Anyway, first game, I'm lining up my first shot, and this giggling twatmuffin in the next lane on the right runs up there with an 8 lb ball and just heaves it down the lane thinking this is hilarious. It bounces twice, goes into my lane and takes out... THE 7 PIN. I was like WHAT THE FUCK. I wanted to clean that kid's clock.

That's annoying as fuck, but I expect it from douchebags like that during open bowling. How about when some asshole blows past you on the next pair at a crucial moment in league play?

But I'm sure I might be mocked as an old guy for caring about bowling etiquette the same way I am mocked for my strict code of airline dress and my belief in the print version of the major metropolitan daily. They world is slowly passing me by.

All this talk has me wanting to break out my "Beast" hook ball bomber. Geez I haven't bowled in a long time but Jorr is on it. We should go back to proper bowling attire.

My league does a 2-lane courtesy on each side.

It's just common sense. Like looking both ways when you cross a street. One guy nods at the other guy.

First time I had the front 10, everyone else has backed off (which is common league courtesy) for me to finish. I'm lined up, and this little douchebag goes flying past me...mind you I'm in my second step, and can't really stop. Let's just say that I didn't get the 11th strike, and it took his whole team and mine to keep me from strangling him with his towel.

I'm as hardcore as it gets on bowling etiquette. I have no issue staring down asshole teenagers, or even worse, parents who aren't watching their little kids and teaching them the proper etiquette.

Both of my leagues do as well.

I think I'm going to get a new ball. I'm in year 2 of coming off my 25-year hiatus. I'm over 200 in half/quarter of my games and in the 160/170s in the other half for the most part.

My problem is I'm not getting any late break in my ball. I had been getting it and scoring well but now it's like I'm throwing it through the break and not hitting the pocket. I don't like taking too much off it because I lose accuracy. I'd like to be able to throw it with my actual motion and get more break.

Yeah. I still remember the look on his face. It was very much a, "what did I do wrong?" look. He washed out of that league after that season.

The funny thing is that the worst etiquette I seem to run across comes from the best bowlers in my current league...it amazes me.

What kind of league do you bowl in? Competitive/casual? Your skill level?

If you throw a moderate hook, I suggest looking into the Storm products. The Hy Road Pearl is a good option for a middle of the road ball that will last you some time.

If you want to buy online, on bowlingball.com, I suggest the Storm Fire Road...similar to the Hy Road Pearl, but recently discontinued. Very good ball, and it's a great deal. One of my buddies on my Tuesday league and my wife both throw that one, and really like it.

Casual league. But, I want to get pretty good because I'm stupid competitive.

I'm using a Tropical Breeze currently that my Pro Shop guy set me up with. I was looking at the Reign of Power which seemed like it might be what I was looking for. I watched the promotional video and the guy got a strike every single time. Like 50 throws in a row. So, it must be pretty good.

So does ours, but many people don't observe it, including the league president. If I see him as I am picking up my ball, I wait until he throws.

The worst people in bowling leagues:

-The guy who is never ready when it is his turn.

-The guy who stands still for fifteen seconds before he starts his approach. It's worse if he is not a very good bowler.

-The guy who kicks the ball return, and/or curses at the top of his lungs, when he leaves a split, or misses a spare. Again, it's even worse if the guy isn't a good bowler.

-The guy who walks down to the lanes with his street shoes, during rain or snow.

-The guy who complains about leaving splits, or that his ball isn't taking out the pins in the back row, when he throws a flat, spinning ball.

Yep. Don't even come near the scorer's table in those wet fucking shoes. Take them off in back on the carpet.

I've read the last 3 or 4 pages and I swear I am reading a foreign language. I hope I will be able to remember some of the tips in this thread the next time I bowl.

I actually know a little Polish. I used to work at Manufacturers Bank on Division and Ashland and was taught quite a bit.

I looked it up and translated it:

Roughly says "bowlers are more sensitive and easily distracted than golfers".

Crap, if I could swap my golf scores and my bowling totals, I could go pro in both...

Shit, if I could swap my SAT's with my Triglyceride numbers, I'd have been a two-time Heismann winner.

10 strikes by Boyd? I'm impressed, seriously. I always was quite aware of somebody ready to take off next to me. I never had any issues but I'm not in the same league with serious bowlers.
