Just wait until Sunday and laugh at us when Jay has a great game.

Jay having a good or bad game has nothing to do with this. He could be horrible and be 100% healthy.
If he has a bad game it brings up the whole "Maybe McCown should have been given another chance" discussion.

Calm down. People are thinking he rushed himself back. It's a fair thing to think.

Now, maybe he'll look completely healthy out there.

That has nothing to do with Jay being cleared or not. A backup doing well and a starter struggling will always raise that question.

What is the impossible standard? How long have you been alive?

I can't tell you the amount of people Ive heard the past day criticizing Jay for 'coming back too soon' from an injury. A starting QB in the NFL has his fans complaining that he's coming back too soon. Find me another situation like that where the starter doesn't suck to high hell. Even Vikings fans wanted Ponder back.

He's been criticized for facial expressions, for what the camera happens to show on the sideline when the D's on the field, for not coming back soon enough after his MCL sprain, for flipping off a camera while walking his dog.

Sure there might be other athletes criticized, but not one on his profile.

This is true. IF his mobility is the cause of his poor play then what? If he reinjures himself what do we say then?

We were told that it would take AT LEAST 4 weeks for him to come back. IF he's coming back too soon he could reinjure himself and hurt the teams chances for winning. There is no need for him to rush back now.

What is his profile? Cutler isn't an elite QB and never will be. That should be clear at this point. Does he have elite tools? Sure. All players get criticized for what they do. He was the face of an offense that was holding back a great defense for 4 years. Jay has been criticized for being mediocre and for not appearing to be a good leader. Jay has been given more passes than any QB in the NFL would likely get. How many coaches and players have been fired or released? Still we see the same Cutler and manage to find even more excuses for his mediocre play. When are we allowed to be critical of him? What level of criticism is acceptable.

Let's cut to the chase.

It's more than fair to question whether a player would rush himself back when his backup is proving that he may not be providing the value that everyone thought during a contract year. Maybe we are wrong and Cutler woke up one day and realized his groin was no longer hurt. However, it is still fair to think Cutler is worried about the very real ramifications of a guy like McCown putting a lot of game tape out there playing well.

We'll see the Sunday. I just hope that injuries aren't used an excuse if he plays poorly.

I still think rpb may be right and Cutler ends up a late scratch.

Criticize a pick. Criticize when he holds onto the ball too long and takes a sack. Criticizing a player for coming back before a projected time frame when he's been cleared by doctors is ridiculous.

A narrative is already created that he's rushing back because Josh is playing well and he wants a chance to max his contract. Some people (not saying you, just from convo's I've had personally) are almost rooting for him to throw 2 picks in the 1st quarter just to add fuel to their jay hate fire.

I lack the ability to comprehend anyone who believes that Trestman would start Jay if he's not 100% confident Jay can play without limitations.

Jay's profile is the best quarterback the Chicago Bears have ever had. Tallest midget sure, but he is.

The offensive debacles have not been his fault. I expected him to be able to overcome it and he hasn't been able to. Still, it has been far from his fault.

Even if you think he is 100% healthy now this is still 100% true.

NFL players are always worried about losing jobs to backups either by play or injury. Do you think Cutler doesn't care that McCown has created clear questions about how much value Cutler provides?

I think this is a fair way to look at it.

That is also why you let him walk unless he proves otherwise towards the end of the season.

Sure, I'll concede that. Anyone would in that situation. The overarching point though that's it's Trestman's call in determining Jay's health/ability.

We're fans of the team. We're criticizing him because we believe he may hurt the Bears chances of winning a winnable game. It's really that simple. McCown hasn't been bad enough where we believe Cutler at 60% is the Bears best chance to win. A few years ago this was true and he DIDN'T come back.

You haven't been watching football for a long time then. This happens just about every week. Do you think Tillman should have been out there earlier in the season? He clearly wasn't healthy but he told the coaches and medical staff he was fine. Players in all sports do this. Cutler won't be the first or last.

It's a shame Orton isn't a free agent this year.

Romo knew he had to step it up to hold him off.

I apologize if my 29 years on this planet makes my football opinion less valid.

Of course guys want to get back onto the field. It's up to the coaches to determine if they will help or be a hindrance to the team. Trestman I'm sure is watching and rewatching every drop back and throw Jay made yesterday and today. If he has any doubts I'm sure Josh will start especially considering (based on this season) the dropoff from Peanut to Bowman is much greater than Jay to Josh.
For Jay to be getting criticism for being cleared doctors is crazy.

This will all be hashed out on Sunday. Obviously Jay Cutler gives them the best chance to win if his mobility is no longer reduced.

Right. We are all debating theory and truth behind what Jay and Trestman have said. If he can't move on Sunday then I'm clearly wrong.

The discussion here is around the wrong person. Of course Jay wants to play.

It's the job of the medical staff and Trestman to determine if he is healthy enough to play. If it turns out Jay isn't mobile, and is totally hindered... the fault is on the doctors and Trestman, not Cutler. Yet somehow, Jay is the villain in this despite being medically cleared.

Well my 2 extra years on this planet have been valuable. Doctors will clear anyone and coaches will generally defer to their best players when it comes to their availability. This is nothing unusual for Trestman or the medical staff.

Holy shit, you have to be wrong. No way Trestman would watch practice, see Jay struggle to move/make throws, and say "eh fuck it, I trust Jay." That may be true if Josh was horrible, but since Josh is obviously a serviceable replacement, common sense would suggest Marc is making the best decision for the team. He has no other reason not to.

No! Everyone agrees Jay is going to say he is ready. He probably wanted to play last week. It's up to the other 2 parties to remove the emotions from it, and make a business decision. They are in charge, not Jay.

See I don't even know if that statement is accurate. Offense hasn't missed a beat last 2 weeks and in fact was better after Cutler left the game against Warshington with McCown. In this particular offense looks like McCown is just as effective at running it than Jay.

I think if you give just about any QB time to throw they can be competent. The offensive line has done a great job pass blocking all year. McCown has also been smart enough to not try to do too much. The offense has played with great pace and has been successful because of it. I'm hopeful that a healthy Cutler will also recognize that he doesn't need to hit a homerun on every play. McCown doesn't have 2% of the talent Cutler does but talent doesn't always win games.
