Rick and Nas, I don't understand. So, the doctor says Jay is 100%. Trestman says he wants Jay to start. So, you feel Jay should say "no, I think I'll sit this one out"? Because I think in that scenario, you would both do a 180 and follow the other long-standing Cutler narrative.
No, it came much earlier than that. I have no doubt that Cutler was pushing the "I can play" idea well before the doctors cleared him. I don't even blame Cutler. He's rushing back because he knows how damaging McCown could be to his future not only with the Bears but with other teams.
24_Guy wrote:
Or, why not stake a claim that you think McCown is just a better QB than Cutler? Nothing wrong with that. Time will tell if it's true.
I don't think he's a better qb. I do think it would be interesting to see what McCown can do simply because it shows just how valuable Cutler is.

He looks pretty limited out there to me though the "Throw it in Marshall's vicinity" strategy seems to be working.

It's hard to come up with many teams that will have a lot of interest in paying big money for him. The bad teams will want to draft a QB and almost all the good teams have a quarterback for next year.

I can't believe that Trestman is leaving him out there to get killed like this.

I hope. That would be awesome news for the bears.

It's stupid. I'm sure Cutler is saying he is fine but we can see he's injured.

Agreed. It will be awesome to keep a QB no one else wants.

So, do you admit it was fair to think Cutler rushed himself back?

He absolutely rushed himself back, he worked extra hard during the bye week. That's what you are supposed to do.

Agree, he was definitely 100% on the opening drive. Great throws.

I'm still a huge Cutler supporter, but he shouldn't be in there if this is what it's been like all game.

Didn't you say they should let him walk after the season?

Yes, he will want too much money and we still don't really know what we have. Or we do know and I'm too stubborn too see it, or they wrecked him in the last 5 years. Whatever the case he won't be worth what he wants.

I still love him and I'm glad they took this chance. I had hope for a little while.

Did the Iraqi information minister report that?

Cutler wasn't hurt that bad at all. He was just scared to go in for the final drive. Did you see him on the sidelines? Like he didn't even care. He should have been screaming at Trestman to go back in. Softest player in the league. No other QB would have sat out that last drive.

Cut the crap. Just show up and say you were wrong on this one and the people you criticized were right.

How was I wrong? This should never have been Cutler's decision. Ever.

When he hurt the knee against GB, Lovie took him out. Just like Trestman should have today. That's it. To say Cutler should have overridden the doctor and the coach is just as foolish as today as it was 3 years ago.

I think that is a cop out. Especially with injuries like that, the input of a player is very important. They ask how he is feeling and if he thinks he can go. It's been well documented that doctors are hesitant to go against players/teams when taking someone out of the game or saying they shouldn't play.

To pretend like Cutler wasn't involved in the decision makes no sense unless you've never been to a doctor and you think all they do is look at a picture and then make the determination.

Bolded part, yes that's true. I have to assume coach met with the doc, and together they decided Cutler was healthy. Either the coach prompted him to clear Cutler, or the doc was punked by Cutler and both he and coach fell for it. Bad. It's also possible that it really is an ankle issue, because he didn't look limited in the first half.

He was limited in the first half. He wasn't moving very well. Detroit just either couldn't get to him or didn't try and get to him.

It obviously got worse in the second half.
