He should have looked into trading Derek Rose this past off-season like I said. Not necessarily trade him, but at least investigate what he could have gotten in a deal. Rose has never been a good point guard, his assist to turnover ratio is awful. His defense has now reverted back to being awful, rather than just average which it had ascended to a couple years ago. Sure, his shooting will improve and he will have great offensive games. But because he wasn't smart enough to change his game he is going to continue to be injured more and more. Any smaller player that attacks the rim regularly is going to take a pounding and injuries ensue. As the player gets older, the injuries will only be more frequent. Had he changed his game to become a better facilitator and a true point guard, he and the team would have been better off. Knowing long ago that was not his intention Forman should have investigated a trade.

How do you know he didnt explore a trade?

Rose has never really played a true PG position. Comparing his numbers to other players at that position does not really work.

Because when Gar talked in the off-season about Deng and Boozer and the introduction of Butler to the starting lineup everything always revolved around Derek. Every plan for this season and the pieces (Dunleavy) that were added, as well as any plans for the future always revolved around him as well.

Okay, so we have a guy who is not a good facilitator of the offense. Who does not defend opposing point guards well. Who is too short to play the shooting guard position....... good reasons to investigate a trade.

The truth is, he never should have won that MVP. LeBron was the superior player that season. Derek is not near the player he was that season, as injuries have taken a toll. Those injuries are likely to continue, due to his style of play and the fact he is a smaller player. To trade him while his value was relatively high would have been smart. It takes balls to trade a guy who has an MVP (deserved or not) and is a hometown kid. But making smart moves, rather than popular moves is the job of the GM.

you can point out negative aspects of his game or say he shouldn't have won MVP but regardless, he's a superstar
