fred huebner ‏@fred_huebner 1h Murph & Fred fans! We are back on the air together on ESPN 1000 Sat 8-11am! Bears/Rams, Bulls & Hawks on circus trip & of course, baseball!

Probably a one shift trial. But with Bruce Levine gone, not a bad idea. Should be interesting!!

Murph is just alright with me.
With the shit we have on air now, there has to be a place for my guy Murph.

Here's Mike Murphy. A man of the fan, nothing more...

Exactly. 9:00 to 6:00 is brutal. At least Murph prepared for each & every show.

So with Levine at the Score, is that the end of Rosenbloom doing Saturday mornings?

Rosie and Speigs? That would be a thing. Speigs head would explode inside a week.

Hopefully they give Murph more than 1 shift. He was on 1000 previously as many of you know but it didn't last long at all.

Levine clearly was getting bad.

Murph and Fred once or twice a week is just fine. This should be interesting tomorrow morning, and is no doubt a good move for 1000's weekend lineup. Murph and Fred Show (from 2000-05, I think?) had a substantial following.

I wonder if Terry will no longer be allowed to call him Professor Flakey?

wow the score is trotting out finfer and levine for some hot stove baseball talk?

i turn on murph and he's talking about rose like the ACL was just announced by juday.... we'll see.

but yeah if the score is getting rid of rosenbloom on sat mornings then this is being rolled out like a red carpet for murph.

Murph would be about 1000 times better than the Larry mid day shit show. It would be nice to get someone on who isn't part of the team WSOX.

Totally agree. I just can't listen to Holmes. Just brutal.

Murph & Fred always was a good listen, so hopefully this will be a regular gig now as they still have it.

Me, too.

Surprised nobody remembers the first time they brought back Murph and Fred, as I referred to above.

dude, i remember it as i was on here posting about it at the time. like i said back then, there's something that just feels "right" or "familiar" about listening to murph, and seeing as radio is the medium with the most daily/ritual involved, that makes sense as murph was one of the voices that goes back to when i was a kid in the car with my dad listening to the score 620/1160/whatever back in the 90s.

there's definitely room for him in today's landscape, but like you i have no idea what happened with his weekend gigs last time. i don't remember any explanation but perhaps that's cuz murph is oldschool and doesn't seem to have a twitter account or webpage or blog or what have you. if the score gets rid of rosenbloom to basically do "talking baseball" with finfer on saturday mornings, suffice to say i can't say they'll get my sporadic sat morning listenership, which has been even lessened by my whole getting into watching european soccer thingy.

i've got murph on this morning for the novelty of it, you know, trying to show ESPN 1000 that it's the way to go. plus the derrick rose thing makes you not care as much about the commentary in this excellent everton/liverpool game

This has a nice feel to it. Nice to just hear

KENNY OWENS JUST CHECKED IN AAAAAHAHAHAHAHA YOU'RE FUCKING KIDDING ME

okay let's try again.

Nice to just hear two middle-aged guys talking about sports without sighing about everything and talking about how smart they are.

plus murph at the very least puts on a front that he likes you and genuinely appreciates your call. i called his nighttime show on the score once and, you know, i occasionally have good thoughts and whatnot... and murph went out of his way to compliment me for them and said that i should "definitely [not] be a stranger" and to stay in touch. i found that little bit of "shine" from a host to be !!! and it made me feel positive about him and his whole endeavor.

whereas the show i used to truly love, my old favorite show in all of radio, has literally branded itself as "tune in and check out dan screaming at the idiots. 312-644-6767 cuz that idiot could be *YOU*" --- all the more reason the caller who kept pressing the phone buttons during dan's yelling is my new radio hero. that was fantastic... but since it's in the show's intro bumpers now i can't help but wonder if it was a bit cuz i don't trust them as far as i can throw them (dan's comedy cousins, ofc. bob in niles is prolly one of their creations)

Murph and Fred are Entertainers, not dispensers of acumen, nor edgy/preachy riders of the high horse. It's why I always enjoyed them. Hope they get a regular slot.

Hey ESPN 1000, here's an idea. Go live and local from 9-9 weekdays. In addition to Murph and Fred on Saturday mornings, put them in your everyday lineup instead of Colin Cowherd. People will listen!

9-10 Murph and Fred
10-2 Carmen and Jurko
2-6 Waddle and Silvy
6-9 J-Hood, etc

ESPN requires that affiliates (though technically 1000 is an O&O) carry two national shows, and why just have Murph and Fred do a one-hour show?

If WGN-FM gets an actual station, these two guys would be a great fit.

Never had a problem with Murph on the radio, sure he has some personal quirks it looks like, but he is a good radio hosts

For a daily show? Maybe. That would probably depend on Fred's availability. He has been with 1000 for a while now.

But Murph and Fred on Saturdays in the fall/winter and on Sundays (and Saturdays) in the spring I'm fine with. If they're just getting back in the game. It was a fun listen this morning.
