Better than it being an ACL. Still bad, though.

K.C. Johnson ‏@KCJHoop 17s
Bulls make it official. Release says medial meniscus tear and indefinite absence. Source said he's returning to Chicago for surgery.

Here's what WebMD says about this injury. Don't really see a time table.

my guess is that it'll be next year, prolly around feb/march. if it's an ~8-10 week injury that means derrick will need ~16-20 weeks =D

The worst part is that it will stay with him forever. They don't just fix the meniscus, they remove the torn portion. That causes chronic swelling and arthritus and all kinds of shit. Hopefully they don't talk him into that microfracture bullshit to promote healing or whatever it is supposed to do. Oden and grady sizemore have done a hell of a job returning from that mess.

He's young enough. Blake Griffin and others have bounced back.

That is nothing.

After I tore my acl, I didn't have surgery right away and I subsequently tore menisci several times when the joint would slip out of place. Heals relatively quick - it is just cartilage. It probably folded over on him, hence the pain. I used to manipulate my knee to actually fold it back, and it would heal up in a week or two.

shit i used to cut my leg off with a kitchen knife... just tape it up and its good to go in a month

Yeah. I didn't know the timeframe it takes for these things to heal. He posted it so I didn't have to look for it. What's bothering you buddy?

He won't play again this year. He'll definitely be too spooked this time.

I guess it depends on how bad it is. Some are worse than others. I read on one site that full recovery could be anywhere from 1 month post surgery to 5 months depending on how severe. They won't know until they get inside.

Russell Hustle-Muscle-Bustle Westbrook had the same injury back in April. He returned to NBA game action this month.

Will be very surprised if DRose plays any actual NBA minutes prior to the 2014 regular season.

He had close to a year and was cleared to play...so being hurt during the season he will never be back for the playoffs ..that's my point. He should have played in last years playoffs but didn't! Point

I agree he should have come back. Mentally he is probably going to dead after this injury. I would be shocked if he is the same player or close to it.

Blake Griffin, who blew out his left knee cap in 2009, had a left meniscus tear in Summer 2012. He missed the Olympics that Summer due to surgery to repair the meniscus tear but was back on the court in late August after mid-July surgery. Image
