The Heisman voters will definitely check the stats, and see 5 for 17 passing.

Can the best football player in the country be 5/17 against Western Michigan?

Have you watched this game? The snow and wind blowing completely sideways across the screen? Both kickers missing chip shots?

Stop it. You are reaching now.

Since the odds matter so much (to you only) : have his odds gotten better or worse in the past 4 days, including tonight? Pretty sure there is only one answer.

Did you ever hear Beano Cook?

Have you ever heard Lou Holtz???

The gutter and sewer of college analysts imo.

So, you can discount the odds, but I can't discount the stats?

Why are we even arguing this? I never said he isn't a good player. He isn't going to win the Heisman. He just isn't.

Per the NIU color radio guy, Lynch is going to NY. He thinks he should.

Take that!

Last week the NIU faithful were ripping on Fresno State's weak opponent, but tonight it doesn't matter?

What's your endgame here, man? I don't get how anyone can have enmity for a mid-major whose own students don't even care.

I just heard them debating if "this win over a 1-10 Western Michigan team will help them in the BCS ratings".

They concluded "no".

Your should be asking the NIU faithful what the endgame is. My involvement started by agreeing with Hatchetman about the radio commercial touting Lynch as a Heisman candidate. I said that I think NIU is a nice story, and I would rather see them play in a BCS game than ND or OKLA. I said Lynch is a fine player, but not one of the best three or five in the country. They are disputing odds, which are derived by mathematical formulas, not coach or media votes, and cherry picking the stats that they want. Like it or not, 5 for 17 against WMU doesn't look so hot. Their QBs managed to throw for 50% in the same wind. Last year's FSU team was epic, because EJ Manuel was the first QB taken. This year's WMU will have nobody drafted, and are one of the worst teams in the FBS. NIU could have given the ball to some other players, but they chose to pad stats against a terrible opponent. I'm just not as impressed as some people are.

Maybe my endgame is trying to bring some people back to reality. A reality where NIU isn't as good as Bama or FSU, and where Jordan Lynch won't win the Heisman trophy.

At least I'm not posting about Chas, Steve, my music, titties, or whatever else it is that you find so objectionable.

They also think he should go to NY.

Yea. Lynch dominated Sportscenter tonight. He got a ton of pub. I think he's going to NY.

i finally got around to watching NIU football last night and the most annoying part had to be the ESPN2 announcers doing their damndest to sell me jordan lynch and/or NIU/MAC football. Every bad throw he made 5ft in front of a receiver with a step or 3ft over the hand of a leaping receiver was excused as happening due to the wind/weather, because right in the middle of two horrible throws they literally had the nerve to tell me that this guy has a NFL arm and will be a legitimate factor at the next level.

then on third down his receiver is running a post with 2 steps and he overshoots that by a good 3-4 feet. but ohhhh it's that weather it's that horrible wind fucking everything up. every tackle was a "good" or "great" tackle, every INT was made by a guy whose NFL prospects were touted, and there never were any plays that should of have been made, there were only plays that SHOULDN'T have been made because the guy who made it is showing us why he's got next level potential. the announcing felt like i was getting hit on by that one drunk chick 15mins b4 closing time where it's like "i hope her friends don't try to fight me for the sin of existing right now"

then of course, jordan lynch's parents were interviewed for the momentous occasion. cuz 5 years of "LOL-LYNCH-RUNS" for thousands of yards = college football greatness. truly monumental.... and hey they've got a wonderful niche over there at NIU.... they're far and away the class of the MAC and their football program is run well enough from the top-down that they can lose coaches to upward mobility consistently over the last 5 years and keep on getting better... nice! they've maximized what they are, but they're not real college football. some defense with a better level of athletic talent isn't gonna let jordan lynch rush for 150-300/+ yards and then..... yeah it'll be ugly. until then, god bless ya NIU smoke 'em if you got 'em.

just plz dont try to sugarcoat what i'm seeing out there and convince me that this is the feeder program for all kinds of NFL talent. it's not.... and those WMU wmuniforms are fucking awful btw.

I've found in my limited college football viewing that announcers busting their asses to sell you what you're already watching isn't unique to NIU. The best is when such fawning is followed by a commercial break led off by one of those hilariously low-budget commercials for the school. Why hit me over the head? The whole game is a commercial for the school!

I never said he would win it. I've never seen one person say he would win it. That wasn't the basis of the discussion.

That may be why we are arguing.

Yeah, it seems like someone's taking classes at the Bernstein/Goff school of debate. "People are saying Jordan Lynch is great! Well guess what? He's not that great!"

I think you need to re-read the last two pages.

Spanky bumped the thread with this:

spanky wrote:

Which was obviously a shot at me, and my opinion of Lynch.

Several posters here, and the hype machine known as ESPN, think he should go to NY. People WERE saying it.

You have made it abundantly clear that you don't like much of what I post. Why read it, and respond to it then? What is the endgame here?

This is the biggest Bernstein-esque strawman in this entire thread.

The first post in thread is referencing the betting angle and Lynch, I don't think it's obviously directed at you. It could be, but oh well.

Are you sure about your end game Chus?

I never thought for a second this year, or last, that NIU was as good as FSU.

But they did hang with FSU.

No, because I don't know what is driving the NIU faithful. They feel that I am dissing the program, because they keep bumping the thread. I'm not the one talking about Fresno's weak schedule, or cherry picking stats, to prove a point. Honestly, neither of them should play in a BCS game.

Seacrest wrote:

That's good, because they weren't, and they aren't.

Seacrest wrote:

But they didn't. They lost by 21 points, and got manhandled on both sides of the ball.

WMU hung with NIU last night. They were tied in the second quarter.

Is it an honor to go to New York even if you can't possibly win? If so, I think it's fine for those making the call to tip their caps to him that way for his dominating play against mostly lackluster competition. But he has to know that he's really only going there to change his watch.

I agree, but that post was in response to Curious Hair falsely accusing me of setting up a straw man, by setting up his own straw man. I was responding directly to previous posts in the thread. It was nothing like Bernstein's trolling act. CH is trying way too hard to show everybody how smart he is.

He's drawn to that sexay avatar Chus. FWIW I think NIU is at least as good as the worst team that will make a BCS appearance this year.

I can't decide if I'm 'bumping' or 'replying', evidently my alma mater is the determining factor on that one  , anywho:

Danny Kannel is pushing the lynch-for-heisman thing more than just about anybody in twitter. It's kinda strange actually.
