Stopped by Binny's to pick up the essentials for Thanksgiving:

Two Bros Night Cat
Revolution Local Hero
Boulevard 80-acre
Dogfishhead 90 minute

That should help me deal with the madness until the start of he Cowboys game. :?

Does anyone here know much about mead? I had it a few times in college and, though I did enjoy it, kind of forgot about it. Then, I saw a thing on CBS about it last Sunday and I got the urge to have some again. Is it readily available for purchase at a local liquor store? Any good brand recommendations?

I apologi for the false information. Next Friday.

Malloy's in Glen Ellyn released their stash today, and I was lucky enough to get there in time.

I just waited outside Naperville Binny's for about 70 minutes, but I got what I needed, again.

Continuing my exploration of the Boston-area brewing scene, I recently sampled the following:

Cambridge Brewing Company (Cambridge, MA)--The Audacity of Hops Belgian IPA: This is an excellent beer--lots of citrus and grassy notes with a decent amount of piney-ness. This beer is as good or better than any IPA being brewed in Chicago right now.

Backlash Brewery (Boston/Holyoke)--Outbreak Double IPA: Backlash is a small-batch brewing company that is making some outstanding beers. The Outbreak Double IPA is part of their Uprising series, which highlights a few different kinds of hops. Somewhat reminiscent of Stone's recent Enjoy by 11/12/13 IPA, Outbreak features an assertive piney flavor that is accompanied by some floral and citrus notes. Great aroma, assertive-to-antagonistic flavor. Very enjoyable.

Howler Brewing Company (Hatfield, MA)--Hooknose IPA: This beer smells like a tire store and tastes like a used bandage. Truly one of the worst beverages I've ever consumed. Hatfield should be firebombed for harboring this atrocity.

The beer isn't that popular right? This is the run of the mill Bourbon County Stout not the coffee or super-duper special barrel aged version, correct?

Some stores sold out in 15 minutes, and Lincoln Park Binny's had almost 600 people in line before the store opened, so I would say that it is a very popular release.

I would never describe a 15% ABV, bourbon barrel aged stout as "run of the mill". They released the Bourbon County Stout, and four variants. Read about them here:

http://www.brewbound.com/news/2013/goos ... ack-friday

This is what I got:

Bourbon County Brand Stout - 16 12oz bottles
Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout - 3 12oz bottles
Bourbon County Brand Barleywine - 4 12 oz bottles
Backyard Rye Bourbon County Brand Stout - 3 22oz bottles
Proprietor’s Bourbon County Brand Stout - 1 22oz bottle

Stopped by Winfield Liquors last night, since we stayed in Winfield again. A lot of their beer is really old. Was wanting to buy a couple bombers to split, then I noticed the drink by date was in March/April 2013. Nothing worse than IPAs long past their drink by dates.

Run of the mill was probably the wrong phrase. I was thinking more along the lines of the plain old Bourbon County Stout. I didn't realize they released all of these different ones at once.

I'll take a sixer of ZD in Palatine. Thank you! Also, I hope you scored some Head Hunter while in Cleveland.

You're probably stuck with like 11 bottles leftover from a 12 pack, right?

I hate when someone brings shitty beer over, and then leaves it in my fridge. Then you can never get rid of it.

he also brought some IPA from some local brewer in St. Louis, it was just ok....so yeah i've basically got like 10 bottles of the shit, that are gonna rot in my fridge
on the plus side, he also brought a case of Miller Lite, so the next time rpb or pittmike come over, i'm all set

I was fortunate enough to go to the Jackie O's release this past weekend. It was the first time I legitimately felt bad for not being on Untappd, as it would have come in handy for tracking and remembering the ridiculous amount of beers I tried.

Bottle info: this batch of Rum Oil of Aphrodite is even boozier than usual for them and I didn't really hear anything positive about it from anyone there. The barrel-aged saison seemed like the most popular of the released bottles but was limited to one per customer. Bourbon Coffee Oil of Aphrodite was probably the best beer I had there, but unfortunately bottles were limited to their reserve society.

Untappd is perfect for those occasions. Only Jackie O's I've had are Mystic Mama and the red ale. Liked 'em both.

I'm supposed to hit up Three Floyd's this Saturday. Hoping the weather holds up.

My wife's cousin happened to be down in NWI for work and hopped over to the Brewpub. Grabbed 4 bombers of the "not sold in stores" variety. Damn good on all counts but the Cow was amazing.
