Some things can't be measured by on field production. We all saw how virtually the same defense took a huge step back several years ago when he got hurt.

If production doesn't matter, then why not place Mel Tucker or Rod Marinelli at MLB if all the Bears are missing is leadership and veteran savvy?

It doesn't play as big a role. Urlacher knew all the calls and even last season was usually in the right place even though he lacked the physical ability. We used the say the could plug anyone in on defense and wouldn't miss a beat. That isn't the case this season. I believe #54 had a lot to do with that (Lovie too).

I should add forcing a guy that has little knowledge of a system to come in and run the system doesn't help. Mel Tucker was put in a bad place.

That would make sense if they had the talent to run any system - they don't. They are either old, bad, broken, or incompetent at most positions.

Even in his current condition there isn't a LB on the field that is better than him or Nick Roach.

On top on lacking talent this defense has no leadership on the field. In years past the Bears wouldn't miss a beat even with injuries. They have 5 replacements on defense a couple years ago and were still playing at an elite level because of that leadership.

Yes. I don't think it'd be worth it to have him this year though. This was going to happen.

Even with his FDR/Forest Gump braces on his leg he was still in the right position. I've never seen so many completions over the middle to TE's and WR's. He knew how to close those windows. The Bears LB's are getting beat on every passing play.
