Think of it as WFAN and Imus. It would be nice to have 101.1 as the Cubs/Hawks station while 670 cements its status as Radio Reinsdorf.

Be wary of what you wish for. Remember I espoused that format, too, but then North took the morning show as the "general topic" talk show. Which of course didn't work because who wants to listen to North natter on politics with Annie as his foil?

yep, that still burns in my mind

You guys are both wrong. Many cubs fans were OK with Murphs show, talking cubs

The guy watched every game, wrote down every at bat, every play, I know a Peoria Matt also had no issues with him.

Just because Teary hates him doesnt mean everyone has to.

I'm not even a Cub fan and I was a big Murph defender. I don't like him during the days but he is a very comfortable listen at night where he can spend half an hour on his crazy topics and open up the lines to debate the point.

In the early years of the board, you and I were about the only two members of the Murph ALS. I liked Murph no matter his time slot. He was an easy listen for me. His wacky segments were a nice break from all the "important" radio going around him. I hope he and Fred find a regular slot. They're still my favorite morning show. He wasn't interested in changing the world. Just fans talking to fans.

I can't be arsed to sift through that awful ESPN site - are these show(s) available via podcast, or only live?

No, it needs a talker unaffiliated with the teams. No games; just callers. An absence of cookie-cutter hosts helps tremendously, too. Back in the 'day, I'd count Schaer and Jiggetts as the most "mainline" hosts they had. By teaming him with North, Jiggetts' normalcy was offset. Nothing could be done with Schaer sportscaster delivery except the later bringing in of Memolo. (And it helped some -- kept me from getting suicidal during the morning commute.)

I would rather listen to Murph, Fred, J Hood, North & Goff than any of the current WSCR hosts.

It was fun listening to Murph this weekend. He, predictably, considers Theo a fraud.

Caught them Saturday morning. Murph is still quite the driver and Fred is a great co-pilot. Really enjoyed hearing some hard core baseball thoughts, even before the Bears plummet to Earth on Sunday.

What was Murph's nickname for Theo again? A very Murphesque one that I'm sure he's very proud of.

If Murph & Fred were opposite any of the SCORES current lineup during the week,Murph & Fred win but I would still give the SCORE a listen during commercial breaks. Goff is working now on 1000 but I just never bother to see when he's on. North would tell anyone who listens that he still is on top of things. It's sad that he is on the same course as Chet Coppock. The jobs are limited and the landscape has changed. Obviously,Dan McNeil has either had enough or wants to take his constant references about Led Zepplin's 3rd album, seeing his HS buddies naked and Bass fishing elsewhere. Yeah, good luck!

OOOPS! Believe me,I can tell the difference. I always liked Hood. Goff is good, too when he tries not to sound like Bernstein.

I agree. Be nice to have some unfettered Cubs Meatballery after the shitstorm of Sox meatballery I've been forced into over the last 10 years.

Meant Ronnie Woo, but for serious, Murph does his homework.

He is entertaining and energized....unique, which is what alot of shows are missing these days.
